Here's our first look at Milan Rathnayake with the ball, who was picked as a bowler but batted so beautifully yesterday on Test debut.

He starts well here too, consistently hitting a good length and drawing Joe Root forward.

That's interesting because he looks technically correct, but he looks vulnerable during those first few balls. After the first 50 balls he stays like Root. He moved around a little more than normal and wasn't quite steady at the crease.

Ollie Pope has just been bowled for the 22nd time in his Test career, 28% of his Test dismissals have been bowled. That's an unusually large number of times his stumps are disturbed.

Root was in total control of that shot. He did it on purpose hitting it down with soft hands, he fit that gap perfectly.

Joe Root and the controlled edge down to deep third.

    What a combo.

He gets his first boundary of the day in fine style.

As usual, Joe Root restores some calm in the middle, just patiently rotating the strike with Lawrence.

It looked hopeless for Sri Lanka yesterday, but they are back in the game. The challenge is there for England now.

Skilful bowling from Asitha Fernando, this.

He's not the quickest or the tallest but he's skiddy, and in these helpful conditions it's proving to be difficult.

I criticised Sri Lanka's field settings, but credit to them, they've bowled nicely so far.

Another great bit of bowling from Fernando, just hurrying him up a bit. When that ball is new, it can skid at you. Pope was beaten for a bit of pace there. Fernando is looking threatening.

    Oooh, what a beauty!

Asitha Fernando gets his second with a big nip-backer that completely beats Ollie Pope. On the back foot, it jags back through his defence and takes the top of off stump.

There's plenty of movement out there for the seamers.

A nice introductory ball. Short and wide, Ollie Pope could hardly reach that, no real pace from Fernando.

Andrew providing the much-needed information, thank you.

Meanwhile, Ollie Pope cashes in on a poor ball from Vishwa Fernando, helping himself to four runs past point.

Andrew: Clive Lloyd hit a seagull in Adelaide in 1980. It was on the ground, got carried off and later flew away - probably with a severe headache.

    Lovely over from Asitha Fernando.

That looked very out! A good bit of bowling. It's one of those pitches where some skid off the surface and some hold. That looked like it rushed towards Duckett.

Hitting leg stump! What a review.

What was I saying about getting Lawrence off strike? Genius move.

Duckett also plays all around a straight delivery and Sri Lanka get the early wicket they needed. Good bowling from Asitha Fernando, learning from his mistake earlier in the over and getting it fuller.

It's much fuller than the Lawrence decision. I think it's hitting the stumps. This is all about whether it's pitched in line.

    Now it's Ben Duckett's turn!

Maybe it was an act of brilliance to get him back on strike?

This is much fuller, but possibly too far down leg. The umpire is unmoved, but Dhananjaya de Silva reviews with a second to spare.
