Nervy moments as Joe Root gets a top-edge on a pull shot but it lands safely and runs for four. 31 more to get to the record...

That's where Ben Duckett is so refreshingly brilliant. He's only stopped one ball with a dead bat. Otherwise, he's been looking for those massive smashes.

It takes Ben Duckett eight balls to bring out one of his trademark sweeps to Abrar Ahmed.

The result is the leg-spinner dragging his length back too far and Duckett can whack this one for four too.

Ben Duckett's troublesome left hand comes off the bat when he prods at his first ball, suggesting some soreness may be there, but he looks more comfortable as he takes a single from the final delivery.

The good news for England is Ben Duckett has emerged at number four, having been unable to open yesterday because of that thumb injury.

We'll have to watch him closely to see whether he is hampered by the issue.

A few inches here or there and it would have been a boundary, because it was timed so brilliantly. Aamer Jamal took the catch on the second attempt as it was hit so hard. But what a waste of a knock from Zak Crawley as he was absolutely bossing Shaheen Shah Afridi and company.

    Ooops.

Zak Crawley, and a couple of England fans in the crowd, cannot believe what he has done. Having batted like a dream, the opener has just flicked a ball from Shaheen Afridi into the hands of mid-wicket.

Aamer Jamal took a stunning catch there last night. This is much more straight-forward and he almost drops it before eventually clinging on at the second attempt.

Pakistan have sent a fielder out into the deep to defend Zak Crawley's booming drive.

Just a single comes from this Abrar over but there have been no worries for England yet.

Joe Root is averaging 58 since giving up the captaincy compared to 46.44 in the period he was in charge. It has been a superb run.

Remember that period when he seemed unable to convert fifties into match-winning hundreds? Seems a long time ago now.

The way Joe Root has handled himself after leaving the England captaincy is sensational. I've gone through that phase where you are removed as a captain and you become an ordinary player, it takes a bit of time to adjust.

You've lost that pedestal, could go into a shell and become a little selfish as well. But Root has been an exceptional team player. He's been minding his own business while being part of the team.

Six runs come from Abrar's first over with any superpowers nowhere to be seen this early.

Abrar Ahmed was bowling without his specs yesterday and got bashed around.

He's put them on this morning, hoping for some sort of reverse Clark Kent effect, and is bowling the second over of the day.

Zak Crawley is some player. The reason why the ball flies off his bat is because he gets behind the line and puts his balance behind that drive as well - the force of the body moving in that direction. He's just a tremendous player to watch.

Zak Crawley creams a drive for four just as the group of England fans finish their early-morning rendition of Jerusalem to bring up the tourists 100 on the third ball of the day.

You will not be surprised to learn the ball has not started hooping around corners.

The record will definitely be in the back of Joe Root's mind. He's a marvellous player and unfortunately for Sir Alastair Cook, it's inevitable Root is going to pass him.

Sir Alastair was a opener who faced the new ball in England for the half of his career and Root has batted at four for the majority of his career. But he's the complete player and he is the one you will pick to bat for your life in any situation.

He looks well set and poised today to break that record.

Joe Root comes charging and side-stepping from the boundary edge - as he always does. I wonder if he's even thinking about the record.

There's already an animated chat going on between Pakistan captain Shan Masood and umpire Kumar Dharmesena.

Not sure what that is about...

England will be sat there saying we had a brilliant start, but we are still 460 runs behind. And when you have that coming into the third day of a Test match, there is a degree of trepidation about it.

An early wicket will galvanise Pakistan and make them find more energy in this heat. So, the first order for England will be to get through the first hour today and then, things might calm down and ease slightly.

It's definitely still very much a run-scoring wicket here and the grass means the bits in between the cracks are not abrasive. At the moment, they are not wide enough to deviate the ball left and right.

It's much hotter today compared to this time yesterday. You could anticipate the cracks widening, but it's still a very good wicket to bat on and you would consider yourself unlucky if you get a ball that deviates, especially in the first session today.
