    Kamran Ghulam is in control.

He's very good against spin and plays the ball late. He is firm with his feet movement and whenever there's an opportunity he has scored runs.

  2. 50 runs

50 for Kamran Ghulampublished at 43 overs

And there is the fifty for Pakistan's debutant number four. The pressure was on Kamran Ghulam with him having replaced Babar Azam, the biggest name in Pakistan cricket, but he has played calmly and nicely.

    A fifty from 104 balls.

Bashir has bowled slightly fuller and slower post lunch compared to the first session. In the first session he bowled at an average speed of 55.6 mph with an average length of 4.58m.

In this session he's currently bowling at 53.8 mph with an average length of 4.38m. He's a tad slower and about 20 cms fuller on average.

    Ayub 54, Ghulam 49

A beauty from Jack Leach beats the edge and an aghast Ben Stokes' hands are over his mouth this time.

Still I think the pitch has settled down with the softer ball.

Ben Duckett has just gone through a run-up and bowling action. He has more first-class wickets than Zak Crawley or Ollie Pope, so I reckon he would be England's eighth-choice.

  6. Pak 112-2published at 41 overs

How long until he see a bowling burst from the England skipper himself?

    It might be time.

    Ramiz Raja
Former Pakistan captain on Test Match Special

Kamran Ghulam seems to be organised against spin.

He has made a commitment when he hits the ball, and he hasn't really been pushed by the closing fielders.

He has not changed his pattern or game plan.

  8. Pak 110-2published at 40 overs

    Ayub 54, Ghulam 46

Ben Stokes, whose ginger beard is looking thick at the moment, purses his lips after another sweep shot from this Pakistan pair. The shot brings Saim Ayub another boundary and is one of the more aggressive strokes we have seen in this 91-run partnership.

  9. Pak 106-2published at 39 overs

There are loud cheers from a group of school kids in the crowd as Kamran Ghulam connects on the sweep this time, adding four runs as he does.

Why didn't my school do trips to a Test?

This little graphic from Cricviz shows how the pitch is getting harder to bat on already - the amount of spin, deviation and inconsistent bounce are the main factors.

The pitch has also got slower!

  11. Pak 100-2published at 38 overs

    Ayub 50, Ghulam 40

There are more gasps and groans from England's fielders and an unimpressed glare by bowler Jack Leach after Kamran Ghulam connects only with fresh air after winding up for a big slog sweep.

We're talking about Babar Azam's birthday and there's a fan with a poster wishing him well for his big day in the stands.

On my 7th birthday I had severe chickenpox which was during the 2002 football World Cup. England were playing that day against Nigeria and I had plans to watch the game with friends at school. Not only was it a bore draw (0-0) but I was quarantined by my parents in my bedroom unable to watch. Bad, bad day!

  13. Pak 99-2published at 37 overs

The consensus from the TMS experts is Shoaib Bashir is bowling a little bit too full.

Tom Hartley would have been a handful on this pitch but he wasn't picked in the squad. I wonder if he's at the garden centre.

Ollie Pope might have reviewed it, but Ben Stokes is in charge of the reviews. A decent delivery from Jack Leach and a brilliant over.

  15. Pak 98-2published at 36 overs

That's a better over from Jack Leach.

He appeals for a catch behind as Saim Ayub pokes forward and the next delivery is missed as well. Leach cannot believe it hasn't hit something.

Ben Stokes is unmoved in terms of a review.

    A shocker, Rob.

Meanwhile, this inexperienced Pakistan pair look to have Shoaib Bashir's off-spin under control.

I ran myself out, for 0, without facing, on my 30th birthday. Having landed back from holiday at 3am in the morning. We lost the game too.

  18. 50 runs

50 for Saim Ayubpublished at 34.1 overs

After scores of four and 25 in the first Test, Saim Ayub has a third fifty in his five-Test career.

He has only hit four boundaries in this knock.

There was a hint of some reverse swing for Potts in that spell just before lunch. He swung the ball 0.20° on average with the new ball, but in two overs with the slightly older ball just before lunch he swung it 0.63° on average.

  20. Pak 95-2published at 34 overs

The real perils of dad dancing there...

Jack Leach drops too short this time and he is cut away by Saim Ayub. Matthew Potts hurls himself after it but cannot prevent the ball hitting the sponge.
