The skipper's gone 'do you know what? I'm going to have some of my own fun.'

It's a belting wicket to bat on, so why not make the most of it?

  3. 6 runs

    SA 34-0published at 3 overs

    Target 305

    HUGE!

That could be the biggest we've seen all night, and that's quite something.

Luke Wood bowls just back of a length but Markram picks it so quickly and it sails over square leg.

  4. dropped catch

Markram dropped on 22published at 2.4 overs

    SA 28-0

Chance... but Archer puts it down!

Aiden Markram tries to hit straight again but hasn't got it out of the middle.

Jofra Archer runs back from mid-off with the ball swirling above his head, but it slips through his hands. He never looked confident underneath it.

It will be interesting to see how the bowlers react.

South Africa will have nothing to lose here, but how will the bowlers look after their own game?

  6. 6 runs

    SA 22-0published at 2.2 overs

    Target 305

Aiden Markram is seeing it a little better.

He launches Luke Wood for six down the ground, before edging streakily past the keeper for four.

  7. SA 12-0published at 2 overs

    Target 305

Fair enough, Ryan Rickelton is swinging at everything.

The only problem is he's not hitting it. One boundary is thumped down the ground, but he just swipes at thin air for the other five balls.

  8. SA 8-0published at 1.4 overs

Make that four dots in a row!

Good recovery from Luke Wood, with just two more coming from the over.

They need to be going at double that run-rate...

What a hit for six. We've seen some terrific batting tonight and that shot was up there with the very best of them.

    Aiden Markram got the memo!

An effortless flick off his pads for six.

Right, Anon, let's get the ball rolling: Wilma Flintstone.

England batter Jos Buttler, speaking to Sky Sports: "Three hundred, I never thought I'd see that. Unbelievable. That was great and obviously we're delighted to get that many."

On conditions at Old Trafford: "It's a really fresh wicket, hard wicket and not much in it for the bowlers. Salty put so much pressure on them straight away and carried that on into the power play."

On message to bowlers: "See how we go. It will be interesting to see how slow Adil Rashid bowls with 300 on the board. Obviously it's a lot of runs, but we respect the game. We'll go out there and try and bowl and execute well."

    That was absolutely bonkers.

Spare a thought for the bowlers - look at these figures:

    • Rabada 0-70 (4)
    • Williams 0-62 (3)
    • Fortuin 2-52 (4)
    • Maphaka 0-41 (4)
    • Markram 0-19 (1)
