Jack George: What does skittling Oman like this do for England's net run rate?

Nothing yet, but it gives them the chance to chase the target in rapid time in order to get a huge boost, possibly even past Scotland tonight.

  2. Oman 45-8published at 12 overs

New batter Kaleemullah survives the remaining ball of Rashid's over and England bring on Mark Wood in an attempt to blow away the tailenders.

Shoaib Khan immediately almost offers a chance to the mid-wicket fielder, but it's just wide enough to run away safely for two.

A single brings Kaleemullah on strike and Oman level with that record low score, and the number ten takes his side past it with a drive that bangs into the pitch and races away for four at long off.

    Oman had one job.

The much needed net run-rate boost for England is coming. If ever an example of a bowler being too good for a batter existed, that was it.

    Butt b Rashid 2 (Oman 36-8)

    Adil Rashid, that's rather lovely.

The England leggie sends down a lovely googly, just wide of off stumping and scooting through to take out Butt's stumps.

Too good for an Oman number nine.

It feels a little more balanced today. Having Reece Topley there and not needing Mark Wood is a significant advantage for England and the balancing of their bowling unit.

For this game certainly they have picked the right team.

  7. Oman 35-7published at 10 overs

Maiden from Jofra to take us up to the drinks break as Shoaib Khan struggles with the pace.

Just a reminder that the lowest ever score at a men's T20 World Cup is 39, which has been recorded twice, including by Uganda at this tournament.

Oman should pass that, but maybe by not all that much.

  8. Oman 35-7published at 9 overs

Huh, could that have been another one? I'd need to take another look at it.

Fayyaz Butt drives and it's not picked by Will Jacks at cover.

The ball runs to the outfield, Oman run two and Jofra Archer collects on the boundary.

Good response from England so far tonight after a poor start to the tournament. Need a big win.

Oman have gifted England another wicket.

  11. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 8.4 overs

    Mehran Khan c Ali b Rashid 0 (Oman 33-7)

    This time Moeen holds on!

Bit of a push by Mehran Khan at a turning Rashid delivery and it's enough to take the edge - Moeen takes the grab moving to his right at slip.

England put in a leg slip for new batter Fayyaz Butt.

England have got a sixth. Mark Wood found the inside edge and the ball went rattling into the stumps and now leave Oman in an ugly situation.

    Ayaan Khan b Wood 1 (Oman 32-6)

A 50th T20 international wicket for Mark Wood!

Angled across the left-handed Ayaan Khan who attempts the drive and sees a big inside edge spear back and clip his leg stump.

Next up, a third Khan - this time it's Mehran.

That's a nice looking shot. Adil Rashid bowled slow and rather than snatching it Shoaib Khan connected the bat with it nicely.

  15. Oman 30-5published at 7 overs

We have two Khans at the crease now, in Shoaib and Ayaan.

The latter cuts Rashid nicely to the boundary to offer a crumb of comfort for Oman.

  17. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 6.1 overs

Kail st Buttler b Rashid 1 (Oman 25-5)

    Wickets with successive balls!

Adil Rashid gets in on the action with the first ball of his over, beating the bat Khalid Kail.

The ball flies through to Jos Buttler, who actually manages to miss the stumps with his first attempt to take off the bails, but the Oman batter doesn't drag his foot back quick enough to beat the second go.

After a lengthy review, Kail has to go.

  18. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 6 overs

    Prajapati c Livingstone b Wood 9 (Oman 25-4)

They're in even deeper trouble now!

Second wicket in the over for Wood, whose pace is too much for Prajpati. The Oman opener clips an easy chance to mid-wicket which is easily taken by Liam Livingstone.

That's the end of the powerplay, and it's fair to say it hasn't gone that well.

It’s a strange, quiet atmosphere for such a crucial World Cup match.

    The stands are largely empty.

Mark Wood celebrates a caught and bowled. It's that pace and bounce again.
