  1. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 5.1 overs

    Maqsood c & b Wood 1 (Oman 24-3)

A third wicket in the powerplay!

Zeeshan Maqsood fends off a sharp opening delivery from Mark Wood, offering up a nice leading edge that is snaffled by the England pacer.

Typical jocular celebration from Wood, who mimes a bit of juggling. Oman, meanwhile, are in deep trouble.

  2. 6 runs

    Oman 24-2published at 5 overs

    Goodness!

Prajapati gets hold of Topley's fifth ball and sends it flying for six over a short boundary at point.

Topley responds with a dot ball to finish off his six, a likely his spell for now.

Oman are in a bit of strife losing two wickets already.

  4. dropped catch

    Dropped catchpublished at 3 overs

    Oman 16-2

    And Archer should have another!

New batter Zeeshan Maqsood offers an outside edge off the penultimate delivery of the over, snicking the bottom of the bat while attempting the drive. It should be a simple take for Moeen Ali at slip...

I say should, because it bounces straight out of his hands and Maqsood survives to complete the over with a missed pull shot.

That was a low catch and cover. Will Jacks was confident it was out.

  6. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 3.3

    Aqib c Jacks b Archer 8 (Oman 16-2)

    Another batter falls to Archer!

Aqib is cramped for room a tad and cuts straight to Will Jacks at a short backward point. Again, the catch is taken just above the ground and the umpires take a look.

Replays show his fingers curl upwards to take the ball cleanly and the Oman captain has to go.

  7. Oman 14-1published at 3 overs

Reece Topley, returning to the side today, is looking neat and tidy straight away.

Three singles from the over, the last a neat little cross-batted scoop sweep square.

  9. Oman 11-1published at 2 overs

Captain Aaqib Ilyas Sulehri in the next man in and he gets a four from his second ball, getting on top of the bounce and lashing through point.

  10. wicket

WICKETpublished at 20:10 British Summer Time 13 June 2024

    Athavale c Salt b Archer 5 (Oman 6-1)

Pratik Athavale had just struck his side's first four, timing Jofra Archer through the covers.

But there was a bit of extra bounce to the following delivery and the Oman batter didn't get on top of his drive, instead dropping the ball just in front of Phil Salt, who takes the catch just above the ground.

A quiet and tentative start for Oman. They are just getting used to the surface.

  12. Oman 1-0published at 1 over

It's a quiet start from both sides in truth.

Jofra Archer is going to share the new ball.

  13. Oman 1-0published at 0.3 overs

There's swing for Reece Topley early on but he hasn't quite found his length yet.

Opener Kashyap Prajapati got a first baller against Namibia but has avoided that.

    The anthems are done.

The stands are pretty empty in front of me but Reece Topley has the ball in hand.

England coach Matthew Mott said he hopes Hazlewood’s comments about potentially manipulating net run-rate in their match against Scotland to help knock England out of the T20 World Cup were “tongue in cheek”.

“Having grown up in Australia and the will to win every game, I am sure they will come to the fore,” Australian Mott told BBC Sport.

“I am very much hoping it was an off-hand remark by a really good bloke who is having fun.”

Getting England out is in Australia's best interest - Hazlewood

The build-up to this match has been dominated by comments made by Australia bowler Josh Hazlewood.

He said it is in Australia's "best interest" for England to be eliminated in the T20 World Cup group stage and mused about how they could help Scotland when the sides' meet in the final game of the group in the early hours on Sunday.

England need to win both of their games and overhaul Scotland's net run-rate advantage to progress so if Australia were to take their time in beating the Scots it would negatively impact England.

Were Scotland to beat Australia, England would be out regardless.

"Whether you get close and just knock it around and drag it out," Hazlewood said of how Australia might try to thwart England.

  19. How Oman have fared so farpublished at 19:51 British Summer Time 13 June 2024

England have such a tough task because Scotland managed to thrash Oman by chasing 151 in just 13.1 overs in their previous game.

That gave Scotland a big net run-rate boost.

Oman lost their opener to Namibia on a Super Over and were then comfortably beaten by 39 runs when they played Australia.

Oman are ranked 19th in the world and have never played England in an international fixture.

It's all very complicated, Mark, but yes, kind of.

Because NRR is taken as an average of the whole tournament, Scotland's rate would come down after the Australia game even if they lose on a Super Over.

It's that point England really have to get beyond.

To keep their NRR going up Scotland would have to beat Australia, at which point it wouldn't matter anyway because Scotland would have more points!
