  1. wicket

WICKET Cox b Parkinson 36published at 11:50 British Summer Time 29 April

    Durham 358 v Essex 360-4

Callum Parkinson gets the breakthrough with the final ball of the over.

It's a real beauty to dismiss Jordan Cox, just a ball after the 100 stand was brought up.

Matt Critchley joins Nick Browne at the crease.

  2. Essex into the leadpublished at 11:49 British Summer Time 29 April

    Durham 358 v Essex 360-3

Durham turn to spin and bring on Callum Parkinson for a twirl.

Nick Browne plays a glorious reverse sweep to ease the third ball behind point for four.

Browne then nudges a single to bring up the 100 partnership off 204 balls with Jordan Cox.

  3. 'Hampshire need someone to be brave'published at 11:49 British Summer Time 29 April

    Hampshire 151 & 138-6, Surrey 359

    Roland Butcher
Ex-Middlesex and England - on BBC Radio London

It really requires someone from Hampshire to say 'look, we have to throw caution to the wind here' and try and put the Surrey bowlers off.

The situation is a grave one so it will take someone to be brave, calculated and really say to Surrey 'ok you're in the ascendency but I'm going to fight for everything'.

Someone just needs to play a few shots and change the tempo of the game.

Surrey are happy at the moment.

  4. 350 up for Essexpublished at 11:45 British Summer Time 29 April

    Durham 358 v Essex 354-3

Matty Potts and Ben Raine have created a few decent chances this morning but Nick Browne (114) and Jordan Cox (35) are still at the crease as Essex pass 350 for a third batting bouns point.

Cox has been the more fluent so far on day four, including a gorgeous four through mid-wicket off Raine.

The partnership moves to 94 and the visitors trail by four.

  5. Postpublished at 11:44 British Summer Time 29 April

    Surrey 359 v Hants 151 & 138-6

A change in the bowling for Surrey as Gus Atkinson comes into the attack.

A handy bowling change to have up your sleeve.

But his first ball is a real loosener, short and wide, and Ben Brown doesn't miss out guiding it to the deep point boundary for his first four.

The next ball is similar fare and Brown helps himself to back-to-back boundaries. He moves to 22 and Hants trail by 70.

  6. 200 runs

Bears bring up the 200published at 11:42 British Summer Time 29 April

    Notts 400, Warwickshire 222-5

Watchful but steady run accumulation for Warwickshire so far this morning in bright and breezy Birmingham.

Left-hander Jacob Bethell has gone to his half-century, the second of his first-class career, while Danny Briggs is already on to 23.

And, after reaching 64 with a delightful square cut to the cover boundary, Bethell now his career-best score, beating his previous highest landmark of 61 against Gloucestershire at Bristol in 2022.

A warm ripple of unprompted applause from the regulars acknowledges the fact that most of those present already knew this information!

  7. Early wickets in Division Twopublished at 11:41 British Summer Time 29 April

Max Holden has gone for Middlesex against Gloucestershire, caught by Ollie Price off the bowling of Ajeet Singh Dale, for 111. They are 311-4 in their second innings.

Derbyshire's Brooke Guest went for 75 after being cleaned out by Yorkshire's Matthew Fisher. The visitors are 216-4.

Leicestershire are 131-3 against Northants with Lewis Hill falling lbw to George Scrimshaw.

  8. 'Somerset are a bit collapse-prone'published at 11:39 British Summer Time 29 April

    Somerset 309-9 dec & 22-1, Worcestershire 451-9 dec

    Anthony Gibson
    BBC Radio Somerset

Somerset ought to bat out today on this pretty flat pitch.

They are a bit collapse-prone. But Worcestershire will have to work incredibly hard to winkle them out on this track.

  9. dropped catch

Dropped catchpublished at 11:37 British Summer Time 29 April

    Durham 358 v Essex 345-3

Matty Potts lets loose a huge shout for an lbw off Nick Browne.

He seems utterly convinced - Stuart Broad convinced - but nothing doing.

Further frustration for the Durham man next ball as he teases a play and miss from the century-maker.

Then Paul Coughlin puts down a chance off the final ball of the over, diving to his left. It would have been a good catch, but Browne runs through for a couple.

    Essex are 13 behind.

  10. Renshaw bedding in at Chester Roadpublished at 11:33 British Summer Time 29 April

    Somerset 309-9 dec & 19-1, Worcestershire 450-8 dec

It has taken him 29 balls and 44 minutes of batting time . . . but Aussie opener Matt Renshaw is finally off the mark for Somerset at Chester Road.

A steaky edge for four off Jason Holder.

Somerset, still trailting Worcestershire by 123 runs, are clearly bedding in until this game is deemed to be safe.

Nightwatchman Jake Ball is moving more rapidly at the other end on 11, having already clumped one boundary off Joe Leach.

  11. Postpublished at 11:29 British Summer Time 29 April

    Surrey 359 v Hants 151 & 121-6

That's a beauty from Dan Worrall.

The Surrey man is still getting the ball to talk, even after 54 overs.

He swings one away from James Fuller who is tempted into playing the stroke.

Luckily it misses his edge by a whisker and flies through to wicketkeeper Jamie Smith.

  12. Nick not nervous any more!published at 11:27 British Summer Time 29 April

    Durham 358, Essex 335-3

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Radio Newcastle at Chester-le-Street

It's taken Nick Browne quite some time to reach his century, not just in terms of balls faced, but that ticking clock as well. He had been in the nervous nineties for three days and 37 deliveries.

He got into the90s late on Saturday but could only sit and watch as the rain wiped out day three yesterday.

After resuming his innings on 94 this morning, a four, which went along the ground between the keeper and first slip, came off the bottom of the bat in the first over. And another then took him to three figures.

Essex have been in no hurry with the bat in this game. There are seven overs left for bonus points, so it will be interesting to see what their plan is.

BBC Radio Essex's Nick Gledhill: "Hard work on Saturday evening, not so much hard work yesterday, he was just sitting around waiting to get back out there. But today Nick Browne has had to fight hard against the Durham bowlers"

  13. Postpublished at 11:26 British Summer Time 29 April

    Surrey 359 v Hants 151 & 120-6

It's been as tough going as you'd expect this morning for the Hampshire batters.

They've avoided further damage after Liam Dawson fell, but runs are hard to come by for Ben Brown and James Fuller off Kemar Roach and Dan Worrall.

They've added just four in the first six overs.

Surrey have used just four bowlers so far in Hants' second knock.

  14. 100 runs

100 for Nick Brownepublished at 11:22 British Summer Time 29 April

    Durham 358 v Essex 335-3

Nick Browne slashes at a Ben Raine delivery and it races to the backward point boundary to bring up his 20th first-class hundred.

It’s been a patient knock, coming off 238 balls, with 13 fours.

Will Essex go for broke now, build a quick lead and put Durham in? They're still 23 behind.

Jordan Cox at the other end looks in good nick.

  15. 'Essex have made fast start to season'published at 11:21 British Summer Time 29 April

    Durham 358 v Essex 331-3

    Nick Gledhill
    BBC Essex

Jordan Cox has made a great start to his Essex career so far.

One thing about Essex so far this season is virtually everything they would have wanted, apart from a little bit less rain and potentially two more wins, has happened in terms of players finding form.

After a disappointing end to the 2023 campaign, they really have made a fast start, which hasn't always been the case in recent seasons.

  16. wicket

WICKET Dawson c Pope b Worrall 17published at 11:11 British Summer Time 29 April

    Surrey 359 v Hants 151 & 117-6

    Four to go for Surrey.

Surely a matter of time for the defending champions now to wrap up victory at the Oval.

Liam Dawson adds just one to his overnight 16 before flashing at a Dan Worrall delivery. Ollie Pope dives to his right to take a fine catch at second slip.

That's six in the match for Worrall.

  17. 'Expecting a cracking final day'published at 11:10 British Summer Time 29 April

    Middlesex 203 & 266-3, Gloucestershire 322

    Kevin Hand
    BBC Radio London

    BristolImage source, Kevin Hand

It should be a cracking final day at Bristol with both sides fancying a win.

Middlesex will likely use the final 20 overs before the second new ball to go hard at the bowlers.

Gloucestershire similarly will fancy a chase on this hybrid pitch which seemed a lot flatter yesterday. A first win since September 2022 could be on the cards for the hosts if they get going.

The biggest threat to all this is the unexpected threat of afternoon rain. It looks a little gloomy already so light could also play a part.

  18. Will he, won't he?published at 11:05 British Summer Time 29 April

    Durham 358 v Essex 319-3

Going in at stumps just shy of a century is never ideal for a batter as they are left to contemplate overnight whether they’ll reach the landmark.

But poor old Nick Browne - six shy of a ton - has also been left marooned in the nervous nineties for the whole of a washed-out day three.

Enough to give anyone a touch of the collywobbles.

Ben Raine wraps him on the pad with his first ball faced of the morning - that won't help.

Then he plays out three dots safely enough and then gets a fortuitous boundary to move to 98, hitting the toe of his bat and dribbling through the slips.
