  1. SA 18-0published at 2 overs

Another productive over for South Africa, though Tazmin Brits gets a little lucky with a miscue that lands safely on the leg-side despite some cries of 'catch!'

  2. SA 14-0published at 1.4 overs

    Laura Wolvaardt at her best.

Too full from Lauren Bell, and the South Africa captain pulls off her trademark cover drive for four more.

Wolvaardt, in the process, becomes the first South African woman to reach 2000 T20 runs. What a player.

England got a fair bit of scrutiny after the World Cup and people questioned whether they were doing all that they could. They didn't deal with the pressure well so they have a lot to prove today.

  4. SA 10-0published at 1.1 overs

England aren't quite at the races yet.

Lauren Bell starts with a wide before Charlie Dean lets one through her legs at cover, and that allows Tazmin Brits to get off the mark.

  5. SA 8-0published at 1 over

Bit of innovation from Wolvaardt, skipping down the pitch and lofting the ball through mid-wicket for two.

She was probably expecting a boundary but it just holds up in the breeze, as Sophia Dunkley does the fielding.

    Positive start from the hosts.

  6. SA 6-0published at 0.2 overs

    Oh dear.

One thing England will want to improve significantly on is their fielding, considering how they exited the World Cup.

Unfortunately, Sarah Glenn misfields at fine leg and Wolvaardt gets her first boundary.

  7. SA 2-0published at 0.1 overs

Laura Wolvaardt is immediately off the mark with a clip off her legs for two, with Nat Sciver-Brunt opening the bowling for England.

  8. Postpublished at 11:59 Greenwich Mean Time

The anthems are sung proudly by both sides, with plenty of young children stood on the grass banks surrounding the ground in their Proteas kits, which is lovely to see.

England are bowling first and it looks like there's a strong breeze to contend with, but aside from that it looks like a gloriously sunny day.

Laura Wolvaardt and Tazmin Brits, who were so successful at the top of the order during the World Cup, make their way to the middle.

Elsewhere in the world of women's cricket, Australia have announced their squad for the upcoming ODI series against India and the following tour of New Zealand.

Captain Alyssa Healy misses the India series with a knee injury but the Australia management are hoping she will be fit in time for New Zealand.

Tahlia McGrath will lead the side in her absence, with Ash Gardner as vice-captain, while batter Georgia Voll has earned her first international call-up.

Australia will play three One-Day Internationals against India from 5-11 December in Brisbane and Perth, with three ODIs against T20 world champions New Zealand to follow from 19-23 December in Wellington.

Australia squad: Alyssa Healy (NZ only), Darcie Brown, Ash Gardner, Kim Garth, Alana King, Phoebe Litchfield, Tahlia McGrath, Sophie Molineux, Beth Mooney, Ellyse Perry, Megan Schutt, Annabel Sutherland, Georgia Voll, Georgia Wareham.

There are a few changes from South Africa's XI that played in last month's T20 World Cup final, and they are ones that should shift the odds into England's favour.

Star all-rounder Marizanne Kapp is rested for this T20 series, alongside experienced seamer Ayabonga Khaka, while power-hitter Chloe Tryon only landed in South Africa yesterday from the Women's Big Bash, so she will miss this first game.

England have added Sophia Dunkley at number three instead of Alice Capsey while all-rounder Freya Kemp comes in to the middle order.

  11. England's Heath ruled out of seriespublished at 11:45 Greenwich Mean Time

It appears to be an unfortunate day to be an England wicketkeeper's thumb.

Bess Heath will be heading home from South Africa, having fractured her thumb in training.

Alice Capsey will be Amy Jones' back-up keeper for today.

  14. Welcomepublished at 11:30 Greenwich Mean Time

    Good morning!

I'm sure many of you in the UK are wisely staying inside today given the horrific weather, so what better way to spend a Sunday than enjoying some T20 cricket from sunny South Africa?

It should be a cracking series with both teams looking to bounce back - England from their disastrous World Cup group-stage exit, and South Africa from losing their second successive final.
