    Ind 94-1published at 15 overs

Just a single from Adil Rashid's first over. It goes without saying that he's going to be key to England's chances of restricting India.

    Time for a drink.

Oh, it is! By the barest of all margins.

There's no bat. We're waiting for ball tracking.

It may have pitched outside leg stump.

  7. England reviewpublished at 14.2 overs

Has Adil Rashid struck with his second ball?

He thinks he's got Virat Kohli lbw. There was a huge appeal but the umpire says no.

The England brain's trust - containing Rashid, Jos Buttler, Phil Salt and Joe Root - opt to send it upstairs.

  8. Postpublished at 09:06 Greenwich Mean Time

Joe Root is done for now.

Adil Rashid is into the attack.

Joe Root was introduced into the attack in the 11th over, the earliest in the 12 innings he's bowled against India in ODIs.

Across his career in the format, Root has bowled 38 overs v India across 25 ODIs and he is yet to pick-up a wicket.

  10. Ind 93-1published at 14 overs

England are under the pump all of a sudden.

Four singles follow the six, before Shubman Gill pulls to the boundary again to end the over.

    England need something and quickly.

  11. 6 runs

    Ind 85-1published at 13.1 overs

    Shot!

    Shubman Gill looks on it.

Another step down the pitch and he lofts Gus Atkinson over his head for a six. Gorgeous stuff.

Let's not forget Joe Root took 5-8 on this ground four years ago!

  13. Ind 79-1published at 13 overs

Yeah, this Joe Root experiment isn't working.

He sends a filthy ball down the leg side which Virat Kohli under-edge sweeps for four. Shubman Gill then finds the mid-wicket boundary, before Kohli finds the cover ropes.

    India are stepping on it.

The real test of McCullum’s impact is whether he can improve the individual performances of the team. I think we’re already seeing a significant improvement in Buttler’s captaincy. Hopefully the results will follow.

A quiet over from Gus Atkinson, we're into that milking middle phase of the innings now.

We've got three weeks of this coming up...

I still don’t get England’s batting line-up? Root’s in to be the ticking over anchor but he’s at four, an in-form Buttler is one of the best batsmen in the world, he’s at 6. It’s like we’re expecting Salt, Duckett and Barton to fail?

Catch it! Virat Kohli goes on the sweep and it is in the air for a good while but no England fielder is able to get near it.

It is back-to-back boundaries too as an edge runs away past sub fielder Rehan Ahmed.

Joe Root is having a bowl. That's an interesting choice from Jos Buttler.

Got to say I wish we would just wrap Atkinson up and let him be a top Test bowler. We have other more effective options in ODI & T20 cricket.

Oh! Gus Atkinson draws an edge from Shubman Gill but it is a thick one and it flies past the first slip and beats third man to reach the boundary.

Gill then pumps Atkinson back past him for another boundary.

Expensive start from Atkinson but a pretty event powerplay all told.
