It's remarkable how both teams have only used five bowlers. There's been some big workloads.

Ash Gardner is jut looking to keep the stumps in play. Naturally, she won't get as much rip rom this surface.

    Trail by 194 runs

A bit of indecision with the running and calling between Tammy Beaumont and Heather Knight when the latter sets off for a single.

There's a shy at the stumps at the non-striker's end but Alana King cannot stop the ball, there's nobody else really backing up, and it races away for overthrows.

Five runs added to England's total.

Rare misfield from Australia, Tahlia McGrath just diving over the ball.

  5. ouch!

    Eng 71-1published at 27 overs

Tammy Beaumont sweeps Alana King straight into the midriff of Georgia Voll at shot leg. Is that a catching chance? Given the England opener absolutely nailed it, Australia are happy it's not gone for four.

Voll is okay, thankfully, and chuckling away to stifle the grimace of the pain.

Beaumont does pick up a boundary later in the over, though, with a nice drive. Tahlia McGrath could perhaps have done better at mid-off after allowing the ball to go under her dive.

The runs are on offer, you've just got to make the most of it. It will get tough when the sun goes down but it's all about how they play against Alana King for me.

I think Australia wished they had Georgia Wareham in the side.

  8. Eng 65-1published at 26 overs

Ash Gardner continues to plug away, waiting for England's batters to blink.

Just one run off the over after Tammy Beamont steered the Aussie spinner to mid-on for a single.

The runs won't worry the Australians, it's just about searching for ways to get a wicket.

It all became a little bit too easy for England. The one discipline that England have struggled against through this whole series is leg spin. This will be interesting to see what Alana King can do today.

  12. Eng 64-1published at 25 overs

Heather Knight picks up a couple of runs with a sweep of Alana King.

Beth Mooney is encouraged, however, with the England skipper deciding to play a shot rather just try to snuff out the spin.

I think we're going to see a lot of the King-Gardner spin axis over the next hour or so.

England are going to struggle against the spinners. The surface is offering a lot of turn now.

The game isn't going to be won by England but they can't get bogged down. They need to stay positive.

  15. Eng 62-1published at 24 overs

Ash Gardner rattles through a maiden over, defended by Tammy Beaumont.

All of a sudden England sense a bit of pressure building.

This is where England are in danger. Play straight and they are fine. Try to sweep and they are in trouble.

It is that time of the day, Alex.

Alana King, a headline writer's dream, is summoned by Alyssa Healy and is straight into her business.

Heather Knight is twice hit on the pad - once fending and the other sweeping - by King and there's vociferous appeals from the Aussie leg-spinner.

There's a brief conflab for the second appeal to discuss whether it was worth reviewing, but the TV replays show perhaps it would have gone on to miss off stump.

It's just got to that stage of the day where it feels like we need a bit of Alana King. With Ash Gardner turning the ball as much as she is, you just know King is going to get a lot out of this surface.

A battle of restraint here for Tammy Beaumont as the Australia bowlers try to make her play off the front foot often. Across this Ashes series, Beaumont has been dismissed playing off the front foot/coming down the wicket on four occasions, while she's yet to be dismissed off her preferred strong back-foot game.

  20. Eng 62-1published at 22 overs

Tammy Beaumont makes use of her crease and decisively whips Ash Gardner for four through leg.

The England opener looks like she's found a bit of form and confidence here.
