England need to be prepared to do that little bit extra here today.

    Thanks, Sam.

While they keep wickets in hand there's hope for England. But as we know, it's the hope that gets you.

Anyway, Annabel Sutherland is at the top of her mark with the pink ball in hand. Heather Knight is on strike.

Can England build on one good session with another? That's all they can try and do in this situation.

To take you through the evening session, it's over to Timothy Abraham.

Maia Bouchier is low on confidence from this tour. She's not moving her feet, she's not sure if the ball is moving away or in. Darcie Brown bowls with good pace as well so you have to be really on it. She hasn't been and loses her middle stump.

Australia thought they might have a second wicket just before the break when Kim Garth hit Tammy Beaumont on the pad.

They sent it upstairs for an lbw review, only to be told that DRS was down.

Frustration for the home side but they kept their review and I fancy the on-field decision would have stood anyway had DRS been working.

The beauty of the situation is that I cannot be proved wrong in that assertion...

England did lose an early wicket in their second innings as Maia Bouchier was bowled by Darcie Brown.

A trying tour for the England opener with the bat has now come to an end.

England soon got into their work, though, and took the last five Australia wickets for just 18 runs.

Sophie Ecclestone took three of them to complete a five-wicket haul and Lauren Filer claimed the other two.

The day began with Beth Mooney making history by becoming the first Australian woman to score an international century in all three formats - and just the fourth woman ever to achieve the feat.

Stephen Vincent: The England women have been superb this morning watching here in Melbourne, they've had the best of the first session, well done on a gritty display and especially Sophie Ecclestone, a well deserved five-wicket haul.

That was England's session. They dismissed Australia, who looked set for a big score here at the MCG.

They bowled particularly well, with Sophie Ecclestone picking up a five-for, and suddenly England were back in, batting in really good conditions.

It's 30-odd degrees so perfect batting conditions and they looked pretty comfortable after that first wicket fell.

Not much that anyone can do when the technology goes down. Plus, I'm not convinced it would have changed the outcome even if it had been working.

Anyway, Kim Garth gets through the rest of the over without conceding a run and that's tea.

England are still up against it, trailing by 240, but that is their best session of the match by a long way.

I'm still pondering on what's happened. Alyssa Healy would've loved the technology to be down when she was out.

If Tammy Beaumont continues to play with her pad, it's going to be like a ticking hazard light.

Well, it was pad first but DRS is down so it stays with the on-field decision.

Australia ask why they weren't told beforehand but apparently the issue occurred just as the ball was bowled.

They keep the review and given it looked like Tammy Beaumont might have been hit outside the line of off, that might not be a bad result for the Aussies.

Australia catch everyone by surprise as they call for another review, this time for lbw against Tammy Beaumont.

The England opener is an lbw candidate but this looks like an optimistic one from the home side.

    Nothing doing.

No bat involved, the ball diverted off Heather Knight's hip and through to Beth Mooney.

    Australia lose a review.

I'm not sure, there wasn't a woody sound. Heather Knight does not look worried.

  20. Australia reviewpublished at 12.4 overs

    Eng 30-1

Australia think they've got Heather Knight caught behind down the leg side.

They were convinced but the umpire is unmoved. Alyssa Healy immediately calls for the review.
