Mandhana knew that the square leg was up, and she will know that shot is on, moving forward.

Swept hard by Smriti Mandhana and it's behind square for four.

She really got hold of that.

Five from Sune Luus' first over.

Gem of an innings here from Shafali Verma, and what could be vital here is how she takes so much of the pressure off Smriti Mandhana, as we've seen Mandhana be a linchpin in the Indian batting line-up.

Thanks for the great commentary. Doing my office work while listening. This World Cup will be a big boost for women's cricket. It's great to hear that ICC has implemented equal prize money for men's and women's teams.

As much as they haven't taken the wickets, South Africa should take confidence from seeing how true the pitch has been and that India chased down a big total a couple of days ago. Albeit South Africa will be under a lot more pressure.

  7. drinks break

    Ind 92-0published at 16 overs

Tidy over from Nonkululeko Mlaba, just three singles from it and it's time for drinks.

India will be delighted but South Africa have much to ponder as they drink their orange squash (or more likely sports mixes).

  8. Ind 89-0published at 15 overs

Nine from the over as India's openers continue on their merry way.

After dragging things back for a few overs, South Africa have seen the runs start to flow again in the past couple.

Glorious timing and you can see why Indian's management didn't hesitate to get Shafali Verma straight back in.

Hasn't played all tournament, but that's no bother. She can take the game away from the opposition.

    What a shot, that is!

Shafali Verma hits the first six of this World Cup final with a brilliant shot back over Nadine de Klerk's head.

Just one step into the ball and then a glorious lofted drive, dead straight into the sightscreen.

Classic Smriti Mandhana there from the way she sits so deep in her crease and plays it so late. That's what makes it very frustrating to bowl to.

  12. Ind 80-0published at 14 overs

Pressure relieved as Nonkululeko Mlaba offers a ball that is far too short and Smriti Mandhana gives herself room before finding the boundary with a delicate late cut.

Shafali Verma very nearly added another boundary earlier in the over, driving firmly through extra cover but has to settle for two after a fabulous diving stop from Annerie Dercksen in the deep.

This is Shafali Verman's highest score in ODIs for 13 innings, going back to July 2022.

  14. Ind 71-0published at 13 overs

    Mandhana 28, Verma 35

Five from the over make it India's best for a little while but it's another boundary-less set, which will please South Africa.

They've managed to restrict Smriti Mandhana, in particular. She has scored just one from her last 15 balls.

Great to have this match on while I cook the Sunday roast. I'm thrilled for Jemi Rodrigues, I've thought for a while there's something about her attitude and approach that means she'll go a long way. I hope this ushers in big things for her.

It is a game of patience, and you have dips where you have to contain yourself. Laura Wolvaardt is the master of it, and if Mandhana and Verma stay there, they will be able to catch up.

  17. Ind 66-0published at 12 overs

The third over in a row with just a single from it as Nonkululeko Mlaba continues.

Much better from South Africa to try and drag things back after India's rapid start.

This is much better from South Africa. They are keeping the stumps in play and daring the batters to manufacture something rather than offering it to them.

Smriti Mandhana has scored 416 runs in this World Cup. No Indian woman has scored more in a World Cup, with the previous record held by Mithali Raj with 409 runs back in 2017.

  20. Ind 65-0published at 11 overs

Nicely bowled by Nadine de Klerk as another goes by with only one from it.

The medium-pacer is getting the ball to swing nicely into the left-handed Smriti Mandhana and is keeping the stumps in play from round the wicket.
