  1. NZ 54-1published at 10 overs

That's better from Bates, neatly reverse sweeping Gardner's first ball away for four.

Five singles follow to take us through to the half way drinks break, but there could have been a wicket from the final ball as Ellyse Perry spilling Bates at backward square.

New Zealand are way behind the rate, but they at least have wickets in hand should they want to throw themselves at their target in the back half of the innings.

It's a horrible feeling knowing that you're holding the team up.

  3. NZ 45-1published at 9 overs

Georgia Wareham continues to gum up these New Zealand batters, they can only work her around for five singles.

New Zealand's run-rate is exactly five, almost half of the required 9.45.

Kerr is ticking along well enough on 26 from 25, but Bates is holding up the show with 13 from 22.

  4. NZ 40-1published at 8 overs

    Nutmeg!

Amelia Kerr blocks out a Sutherland yorker by turning the ball through her legs and away to the fine leg boundary for four.

New Zealand are trying to find boundaries but as always with Australia there's good bowling and fielding.

  6. NZ 32-1published at 7 overs

Australia introduce the leg-spinner Georgia Wareham and she concedes a trio of singles from her first over.

Kerr plays a scoop straight over her head, setting herself early, but the ball is fielded on the boundary.

The required run-rate is now exactly nine an over.

It's going to take some performance from somebody for New Zealand but this is a start.

  8. NZ 29-1published at 6 overs

Not far from a catch there.

Ash Gardner draws a big top edge from Amelia Kerr with her off-break and the ball drops just short of deep mid-wicket as they ran in.

Suzie Bates then picks up her first boundary, throwing her hands at the final ball of the powerplay to whip it hockey-style through mid-wicket.

She doubles her score, moving to eight from 15.

  9. NZ 21-1published at 5 overs

    Pow!

Amelia Kerr launches Annabel Sutherland down the ground, making good contact with the medium pacer's final delivery and seeing the ball skip to the ropes.

A bit of much-needed impetus as the powerplay draws close to a conclusion.

New Zealand will know they are behind the rate but the key thing is trying to build a partnership.

  11. NZ 15-1published at 4 overs

There's the first four, as Kerr edges Molineux through an empty cordon.

Grace Harris gives chase and makes a late dive to try and tip the ball away from the boundary, but sees it make contact a little further along the ropes.

  12. NZ 9-1published at 3 overs

Kerr has her first runs, pulling out to mid-wicket for two.

Half way through the powerplay and no boundaries yet for New Zealand - the starting required run-rate was 7.45, it's already crept up to 8.23.

    Schutt bowls Plimmer for four

    Kept low!

Schutt clears up Georgia Plimmer, angling in from wide of the crease, she sees her delivery scoot under the opener's bat as she tries to swipe across the line.

Plimmer has to trudge off, here comes Amelia Kerr.

  14. NZ 7-0published at 2 overs

Plimmer picks up New Zealand's first runs off the bat, knocking Sophie Molineux's first delivery down to mid-off for a couple.

Suzie Bates gets off the mark from her seventh delivery, hitting the left-arm spinner out to mid-wicket for a single.

  15. NZ 2-0published at 1 over

A great start from Schutt, angling the majority of her deliveries into the bodies of the New Zealand openers and restricting them to a couple of leg-byes.

She goes up with an appeal after hitting Plimmer on the pad, but unlike Rosemary Mair in the opening over of the first innings, she decides against reviewing a ball that's obviously sliding down the leg side.

Suzie Bates and Georgia Plimmer have made their way to the middle.

Megan Schutt, Australia's right-arm seamer, will open the bowling.

It's a very good score on this wicket but Australia will be disappointed with those last few overs. New Zealand will go into this second innings with confidence.

    Thanks Tim.

It will be interesting to see New Zealand's approach here. Australia went hard, which worked until it very much didn't.

Will New Zealand do the same, or will they play steadily as they work their way towards their target?

New Zealand did extremely well to peg Australia back there. Can they chase this total down? Mike Peter is on hand to talk you through it.
