Nat Sciver-Brunt said in her press conference that England are chalk and cheese from where they were six months ago and they are proving that today.

With the top three being dismissed, if England can get Marizanne Kapp they are so in control.

Linsey Smith hits the stumps with 45% of her balls bowled in ODIs.

She takes a wicket every 12 balls she bowls on the stumps, for a bowling average of just 6.6.

  6. SA 16-2published at 4 overs

Oooooh... Linsey Smith is very interested in a possible lbw against Marizanne Kapp, raising both arms in the air and having a deep conversation with Nat Sciver-Brunt.

Wicketkeeper Amy Jones, however, is less convinced and they wisely opt against the review. It looked like it was going down leg.

Next ball, Kapp drives through the covers for four.

The perfect start for Linsey Smith and England. Tazmin Brits looked to defend the ball but it was a brilliant delivery.

There were some questions about Linsey Smith's place in the team alongside Sophie Ecclestone but she is proving her place here.

Two top cricketing nations in the world and in a World Cup match. Where are the spectators? How is this sustainable?

Lauren Bell's second delivery kicks off the pitch and Tazmin Brits is a little fortunate to see the ball beat her edge as it whistles through to Amy Jones.

One thing that Linsey Smith does do is attack the stumps - that is one of her strong points. The left-arm spin into the right hander makes her incredibly tough to play.

  14. SA 9-1published at 2 overs

A wicket maiden for Linsey Smith as Sune Luus opts to block out four deliveries.

England will be delighted with Smith's start.

That is brilliant from Linsey Smith. Such a soft dismissal.

Laura Wolvaardt was trying to knock the ball down the ground for that easy single and that is a huge wicket for England.

Lauren Bell is under pressure here already. She immediately says that she wants a deep point in the field.

  19. SA 9-0published at 1 over

Laura Wolvaardt gets South Africa off the mark, guiding the second ball of the innings past the lone slip for four.

Tazmin Brits also gets under way with a boundary, stepping down and heaving Lauren Bell over point. Brits, remember, is on a run of three consecutive ODI centuries and her scores are only getting higher (101, 101*, 171*).

An expensive start from Bell, bowling a bit too wide.
