    Harry Brook will be seething.

There was never two there but also, he should've sent that ball into the stands.

    What a waste.

An unneccesary risk from Harry Brook and some relief for South Africa.

It's important England don't squander this and get 350 when they could've been knocking on the door for 400.

  3. wicket

Brook run out (Yusuf) 3 (Eng 302-4)

The England captain can't make the most of the platform set for him.

Frankly, it's dreadful cricket all round.

Full toss from Maharaj, Brook top edges to deep square, for some reason they come back for two and he's comfortably short of his ground.

    Chaos.

Has Harry Brook been run out? It looks close.

A lovely sight for Jacob Bethell - everyone in the stadium on their feet.

The crowd here will be contemplating that they might seem a lot more of him at international level.

It was an exquisite innings, the manner in which he got that landmark 100.

He played with such fluency and he's done significant damage out there.

    Or not.

Keshav Maharaj steps up with South Africa desperately needing a wicket, breaking a partnership of 182 between Jacob Bethell and Joe Root by throwing the ball wider having seen the youngster advancing at him.

The crowd rises for a fantastic innings, however, which has put England in a commanding position.

10 overs to go, and Jacob Bethell has a licence to show off.

Strap yourselves in. This could get very messy for South Africa.

What a moment for Jacob Bethell.

The thing which sums up Bethell in this innings is doing it under the pressure.

Everyone's been speaking about him the last or month so - when you can do it with the pressure on in international cricket, that's when you survive.

Two more boundaries in the over as Jacob Bethell targets him down the ground - and he is also the one who dropped Bethell on 44.

Bethell hits four to reach maiden ODI century

Driven for four, as easy as you like!

A very special innings from a bright young talent, showing exactly why England are so invested in him.

He reaches a 76-ball century, his first in professional cricket, and receives a big hug from Joe Root at the other end.

He's had a difficult summer, with little time in the middle and very few runs since the West Indies series in May, but this is the perfect response.

  11. Eng 285-2published at 39.1 overs

    Joe Root got the memo.

He takes an easy single from the first ball of the over to get Bethell back on strike.

  12. Eng 284-2published at 39 overs

    Root 78, Bethell 97

Tucked off his pads for four more.

Jacob Bethell is one hit away. It would be very on-brand for him to go to his first professional century with a six, wouldn't it?

  13. Eng 276-2published at 38.3 overs

Oh yeah, Joe Root is still there, by the way.

He pulls a short ball from Corbin Bosch through mid-wicket for yet another boundary.

400 is definitely on the cards here.

One thing you notice about Jacob Bethell is how hard he hits the ball, without much flourish.

There's no huge follow through - just solid.

Fair play to Bethell, he's going for it here with the right shots.

  15. Eng 268-2published at 38 overs

    Into the 90s in style.

Absolutely crunched through the covers for four by Bethell.

In South Africa's recent three-match series against Australia they went 2-0 up and then conceded 431 in the dead rubber. Similar is on the cards here.
