    Ind 57-2published at 5.2 overs

Timing and elegance from Abhishek Sharma, who steps across his stumps and whips Mark Wood for six over the head of the fielder at deep square.

It's a bit more brutal next ball, though, as the left-hander makes it back-to-back maximums by slashing a short delivery over third.

    Normal service has resumed.

  2. Ind 45-2published at 5 overs

Do England have a glimmer here?

Jofra Archer has now bowled three overs in the powerplay in a T20I match three games in a row after never doing so before the the West Indies series in November 2024 - Jos Buttler has been more aggressive with his premium quick and it's paid off here.

    Suryakumar Yadav c Salt b Archer 0 (Ind 41-2)

Two wickets in the over for Jofra Archer, and this is a big one!

India skipper Suryakumar Yadav, who has promoted himself up the order, top edges a pull short and it goes high into the night sky.

Archer is already celebrating before England wicketkeeper Phil Salt advances to take it.

Gus Atkinson looks hugely relieved to take that catch. The kind that can go down if you're feeling a bit up against it.

  6. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 4.2 overs

    Samson c Atkinson b Archer 26 (Ind 41-1)

    A much-needed breakthrough for England.

Sanju Samson cannot quite get the purchase needed with a pull short to a short ball from Jofra Archer, and holes out to Gus Atkinson in the deep.

    Fully deserved wicket for Archer.

  7. Ind 39-0published at 4 overs

A slightly streaky inside edge off the final ball of Mark Wood's opening over allows Sanju Samson to keep the strike. Mixed results for England's pace barrage, so far.

  8. Ind 37-0published at 3.5 overs

A 95mph delivery from Mark Wood is too fast for Sanju Samson, and for Phil Salt behind the stumps, as the ball races away for four byes.

  9. Ind 33-0published at 3.4 overs

Whoosh. That was quick from Mark Wood.

Sanju Samson is absolutely done for pace attempting to hook a short ball from the England quick.

    Phil Salt is grinning.

  10. Ind 33-0published at 3.3 overs

Gus Atkinson is replaced by Mark Wood, who uses the full width of the crease to start with three dots against Sanju Samson.

India do not look like they will be running very many this evening.

Highest Powerplay Strike Rate in T20Is since 2024:

    190 - Travis Head

    179 - Shai Hope

    178 - Yashasvi Jaiswal

    165 - Sanju Samson

I'm sure England's powerplay bowlers will be thankful that Jaiswal has been given the series off.

    Target 133

    Wowzers.

Not a bad delivery from Jofra Archer but Abhishek Sharma has flayed him for six with an outrageous shot.

The India opener throws the kitchen sink at another square drive and the ball screams off the bat and high over cover for six.

  13. Ind 27-0published at 2.3 overs

Jofra Archer starts with a couple of dots round the wicket to Abhishek Sharma, before the India opener gets off the mark by slicing a square drive through backward point for four.

Nice to see England trying to get the match finished before the dew comes down.

  15. Ind 23-0published at 2 overs

Gus Atkinson has taken a battering here. 22 runs off his over as Sanju Samson whips a delivery on off stump through mid-wicket, then helps another off his pads through fine leg.

    India. Are. Motoring.

  16. 6 runs

    Ind 15-0published at 1.4 overs

Sanju Samson gets on top of the bounce from Gus Atkinson this time and unfurls a stylish cover drive to notch back-to-back fours.

Atkinson manages to beat the outside edge of Samson's bat with his third delivery before normal service is resumed and Samson spectacularly slaps him high over the covers for six.

In fairness to Brendon Mcullum and Jos Buttler they are playing the best T20 nation in the world on their home soil. So don’t think we should be panicking just yet. Reckon we have a pretty decent side my only change would be to have a higher quality batter at number seven.

We have Bazzball for Test Cricket and BitandbobsBall for T20. Go back to the Eoin Morgan era and check out his balance within the team!

It’s a meaningless T20 game. Get over yourselves.

Short from Gus Atkinson and Sanju Samson waits deep in his crease and hooks it for four.

Atkinson not entirely happy with what his front foot is landing on at the point of delivery, so the ground staff have poppe out of the shed with a bucket of sawdust which is being liberally applied to the offending area.

Saqib Mahmood picked up eight powerplay wickets in his four outings during the T20I series in the West Indies late last year, with a low score on the board he looks to be a big miss today.

  20. Ind 1-0published at 1 over

Sanju Samson jabs the final delivery of Jofra Archer's over into the pitch and sets off for a single. Solid start for England with the ball.

Gus Atkinson on hand to bowl the second over.
