Tour de France 2015: Chris Froome not wearing yellow jersey

British rider Chris Froome is not wearing the yellow jersey despite moving into the overall lead before stage seven of the Tour de France.

The 2013 winner has taken over at the top after Tony Martin was forced to pull out of the race on Thursday with a broken collar bone.

In the German's absence, no yellow jersey is permitted until the end of Friday's stage.

Martin, who led Froome by 12 seconds, crashed at the end of stage six.

The 2015 Tour has so far been marked by a number of crashes with Martin the second leader forced to pull out.

The Etixx-Quick Step rider underwent successful surgery on an open fracture, said his team, and can resume training in two weeks.

"I won a stage and wore the yellow jersey for the first time in my career," Martin said. "A dream came true during this Tour and now I'm already looking forward to coming back one day again and living the great emotions of this race."

Fabian Cancellara withdrew after the third stage when two pile-ups forced the race to be temporarily halted.

The Swiss, who suffered two fractured vertebrae in his lower back, was one of six riders involved who had to abandon the Tour.

Cancellara completed stage three but lost the yellow jersey to Froome because he crashed 60km from the finish line and crossed the line 11 minutes adrift.

Martin completed stage six and finished more than 12 seconds behindFroome, but because his crash occurred inside the final 3km, he was awarded the same finishing time and therefore remained race leader until he failed to start stage seven.

Stage seven takes the riders 190.5km from Livarot to Fougeres in north-west France.
