Britain's Laura Trott claimed victory in the omnium at the opening round of the UCI track cycling World Cup.

The double Olympic champion finished 53 points clear of France's Laurie Berthon, with American Sarah Hammer third, 13 points further back.

"We didn't want to take anything for granted, I'm here to learn," said Trott, 23.

The event in Cali, Colombia, is the first of three World Cup meetings, with the next in New Zealand in December.

Trott had led by 10 points going into Sunday's final three events and finished third in the time trial and second in the flying lap to extend her advantage.

She then underlined her superiority by winning a lap and five more points in the sprints to seal a dominant win.
