Summary

  1. Aspinall breaks the throwpublished at 19:31 British Summer Time 4 April

    Aspinall 3-2 Cross

As John Part says, both Cross and Aspinall have been excellent so far, which is why this Premier League has been as good as it has been this year.

An off leg from Cross, though, opens the door for Aspinall to break throw, and he takes that chance.

A single 17 and a double 16 takes out a 49 checkout in two darts and Aspinall is averaging over 108 right now.

What we're seeing so far really embodies the Premier League this season. There is some fantastic darts but one of them is going to lose.

  3. Aspinall bites backpublished at 19:28 British Summer Time 4 April

Good control from The Asp back on his throw, giving him six darts at a finish before Cross had any.

Facing an 85 checkout, Aspinall goes treble 15 and double 20 with two darts to level it up at 2-2.

    Clinical from Aspinall.

  4. Cross holds his throwpublished at 19:27 British Summer Time 4 April

    Aspinall 1-2 Cross

A very tidy 174 from Cross gives him three darts at double eight on his throw in leg three.

Cross only needs one of the three to take out the leg and go 2-1 up.

Cross has done well not to let the Aspinall-favouring crowd get to him so far.

    Aspinall 1-1 Cross

    John Part
Former PDC world champion on Sky Sports

It's clear that Nathan Aspinall is in high gear at the moment.

That was a statement hold, not just scrapping by as Rob Cross did.

  6. Aspinall hits 11-dart legpublished at 19:24 British Summer Time 4 April

    Aspinall 1-1 Cross

Aspinall, who found one maximum in the first leg, finds two more in the second.

An 11-dart leg on his own throw, ending with a 41 checkout of nine, double 16, levels this match.

Aspinall has been in two of the last three finals and will be hoping for similar success tonight.

  7. 'A big game for both'published at 19:23 British Summer Time 4 April

    Aspinall 0-1 Cross

    Mark Webster
Former BDO world champion on Sky Sports

This first game is a big game for both. If Nathan Aspinall wins he's almost there in the play-offs.

  8. Cross fends off early pressurepublished at 19:23 British Summer Time 4 April

    Aspinall 0-1 Cross

You get the sense that whenever Aspinall lands any treble, it will be met by a roar from this Manchester crowd.

He gets that and more with his second visit, scoring a maximum to send the crowd into pandemonium.

Aspinall has the chance to take out 91, hits treble 17 but misses two darts at tops.

Cross then has a chance at 90, going 18, double 18, double 18, to go 1-0 up. Impressive stuff.

Over the years we've seen some great walk-ons but that is right up there for Nathan Aspinall. It was spine-tingling. The stage was shaking. It was very special.

    Aspinall v Cross

Time to get night 10 up and running in Manchester.

As expected, the crowd are in incredibly high spirits to greet Nathan Aspinall as he walks out. A moment made even better given that his daughters are both in attendance to watch him.

Aspinall is then serenaded to a rendition of 'Mr Brightside' to what is as good as a home crowd for him.

Rob Cross to throw first, game on!

  11. 'I'm expecting it to be ruthless'published at 19:18 British Summer Time 4 April

Nathan Aspinall talking to Sky Sports: "We all know how good Rob Cross is, he's a fantastic player. The support I get tonight won't affect Rob, he's full of steel. It should be a fantastic game, it always is, but I'm hoping the home support gets me over the line.

"I was an absolute bag of nerves last year. I've been to this venue a lot of times as a fan and it was an amazing dream to step out here."

Rob Cross talking to Sky Sports: "I'm quite excited actually with it being his home support. I am really looking forward to it, it should be a great game. I'm expecting it to be ruthless but that's what it is all about. Sometimes it is better when you win with the crowd against you."

Tonight's first quarter-final sees Nathan Aspinall take on Rob Cross.

The Asp goes into tonight fourth in the table and hoping to have home advantage on his side. He has a real chance to further his cause to end the group stage in the top four.

Rob Cross meanwhile could really benefit from a victory. He has been knocked out in the quarter-finals of each of the past three weeks and averaged 86.29 in defeat to bottom-of-the-table Peter Wright in Belfast.

These two have faced each other four times in the Premier League this year, with Aspinall winning all four, including the final on night five in Exeter.

  13. Humphries thrashes Van Gerwen in Munichpublished at 19:14 British Summer Time 4 April

Although Luke Humphries' Premier League winning run came to an end a week ago in Belfast, he made up for it over the weekend by winning the German Darts Grand Prix.

The defending world champion thrashed Michael van Gerwen 8-1 in the final.

Van Gerwen held his throw in the opening leg but then lost eight on the spin to suffer the heavy defeat.

Humphries averaged 112.66, which is the second highest in a European Tour final, and took out two scores of 100-plus, including 170 to win leg eight.

Nathan Aspinall has been in consistent form as of late and goes into tonight hoping to feel a bit of hometown love.

The AO Arena in Manchester is just a stone's throw away from where Aspinall grew up in Stockport and he will hope to have the crowd on his side throughout the evening as he first faces Rob Cross in the quarter-finals.

Aspinall has featured in four night finals this year already, the joint-most of any player alongside Luke Humphries.

Aspinall has reached two of the last three finals, but suffered defeats in Belfast and Nottingham against Luke Littler and Humphries respectively.

A win over Cross will see him end the night on at least 18 points, strengthening his position in the top four.

  16. How the table is shaping uppublished at 19:05 British Summer Time 4 April

Tonight is night 10 of 16 in the group stages before the play-offs, when the champion will be crowned, at the O2 in London on May 23.

As things stand, Luke Humphries sits at the top of the table and can only be overtaken on points this evening if he is knocked out in the quarter-finals and Luke Littler wins for a second week in a row.

Michael van Gerwen and Nathan Aspinall take up the other two spots in the top four, but with one of Littler or Van Gerwen guaranteed to not pick up any points this evening, there is the opportunity for Michael Smith to close the gap on the top four, or even break into it, if he beats Humphries.

Rob Cross, Gerwyn Price and Peter Wright are the current bottom three. However, a night win for Cross this evening would see him move level on points with Aspinall in fourth.

  17. Tonight's schedulepublished at 19:02 British Summer Time 4 April
