He is finding trebles, but Connor Scutt has kept one or two steps ahead.

Scutt goes close to a 109 out, missing at double 16.

It gives Robb three darts to finish off 100. He goes low with his one shot at double 19.

    Scutt v Robb

Yesterday, we saw Joe Comito of Australia in action.

Tonight, New Zealand's Ben Robb is playing to face another Australian in Damon Heta in round two.

Hoping to stop him is the only Englishman that is playing tonight in Connor Scutt.

He has the darts in hand, game on!

Connor Scutt goes into the second match of the night as big favourite against unranked opponent Ben Robb.

Scutt, 70th in the PDC's order of merit, will look to at least emulate his World Championship debut 12 months ago where he reached round two.

Robb, of New Zealand, is at his fifth World Championship but has lost in all of his previous four outings.

The winner of this match will face Australian Damon Heta on Saturday night in the second round.

  13. Broken but unbowedpublished at 20:18 Greenwich Mean Time 16 December

Germany's Kai Gotthardt earlier overcame a broken dart as he marked his tournament debut with a 3-1 win over Scotland's Alan Soutar.

The barrel of one of Gotthardt's darts snapped in half during the fourth leg of the first set, won by Soutar, but Gotthardt stormed back to take the next three sets in succession.

What a leg to win it, what a shot to produce. Robert Owen leaves Niels Zonneveld disconsolate.

    Result: Zonneveld 1-3 Owen

Another set decider starts excellently for Niels Zonneveld, putting six of his first seven darts into treble 20 and leave 76 after nine darts.

Hope turns into dismay as Robert Owen is left with 121.

He takes it out superbly, going treble 20, treble 11 and double 14.

Owen runs to the side of the stage in celebration. That's how to get your first ever Alexandra Palace win!

Zonneveld is in shock, given how well he played in that leg.

  16. Zonneveld breaks back to stay in matchpublished at 20:08 Greenwich Mean Time 16 December

    Zonneveld 1-2 Owen (2-2)

Robert Owen is really in his groove now, a classy 177 sees him passionately swagger off the oche with confidence.

Meanwhile, Niels Zonneveld gets a third bounce out of what could have been another 180.

Zonneveld is gifted three darts at 56, which he takes out in two on double double.

    Another break of throw. Shock.

  17. Owen moves within one leg of victorypublished at 20:07 Greenwich Mean Time 16 December

    Zonneveld 1-2 Owen (1-2)

Niels Zonneveld did not lose any of the first three legs in this match, but has since struggled to win any.

A second bounce out of the match is met by further frustration from the Dutchman, while Robert Owen keeps his cool.

A 123 from Zonneveld, which he has found a few times, would have been a real boost if dart three did not stray into treble one.

Owen has 118 left to go within a leg of victory, but an unplanned four ends the checkout.

The Welshman does then get three darts on 40, taking the third on the 10s.

  18. Owen breaks back to level fourth setpublished at 20:04 Greenwich Mean Time 16 December

    Zonneveld 1-2 Owen (1-1)

Niels Zonneveld does not start the second leg in the best scoring form, but fortunately for him, neither does Robert Owen.

Just as I type that, Owen finds his third 180 of the night to set up 62.

The Welshman takes it out on the next visit, needing only one go at double 16.

Set four is all square after yet another break of throw.

  20. Zonneveld breaks throw in fourth set openerpublished at 20:01 Greenwich Mean Time 16 December

    Zonneveld 1-2 Owen (1-0)

There have been plenty of breaks of throw in this match and set four starts with Niels Zonneveld needing one to keep himself going in this match.

While he waits to go at 121, a second 180 for Robert Owen puts the pressure on and sets up 70.

An 18 and 12 set up one dart at double 20, which Owen misses.

A landed double 15 breaks throw for the Dutchman.
