Gary Anderson claimed the 30th Players Championship title of this career by beating surprise finalist Adam Lipscombe to win the Players Championship Seven in Hildesheim.

The 54-year-old Scottish two-time world champion defeated the Englishman 8-3 in Germany to end an eight-month wait for more silverware.

Anderson told PDC.tv: "The last few months have been hard for me. I've been struggling since December, so it's nice to win one."

The Scot had romped through the early rounds but required a final-leg decider to edge Krzysztof Ratajski in the last eight before a solid semi-final win over Mike de Decker.

Lipscombe's loss denied him a fairytale finish in what was only his eighth tournament since securing his tour card at the start of the year.

Michael van Gerwen was the only Premier League player to be involved, taking part in the seventh event on Monday.

Van Gerwen only reached the second round before suffering a defeat to then joint-111th in the world, Niko Springer.

Gary Anderson won Monday's event with a victory over Adam Lipscombe in the final.

In Tuesday's final, Martin Schindler was victorious against Jeffrey de Graaf.

  8. How does the Premier League Darts work?published at 19:04 Greenwich Mean Time 20 March

Every Thursday, the eight players go head-to-head in a straight knockout tournament. So, each player will be entered at the quarter-final stage, before moving to the semi-finals and then a final.

These matches are all played over the best of 11 legs (or games of darts).

Players take home points from each of these rounds. The winner of the night gets five points, the runner-up three points, and each semi-finalist wins two points.

All eight players are re-entered into the tournament for the next round on the following Thursday.

The players will meet each other once at the quarter-final stage from weeks one to seven, and then again in weeks nine to 15. The matches in weeks eight and 16 will be played based on position in the league at that point.

The four players at the top of the table by the end of night 16 qualify for the final play-offs, which take place on Thursday, 29 May.

The semi-finals of the play-offs are played over 19 legs, while the winner is crowned in a final match played across the best of 21 legs.
