Martin Lukeman has a good darting brain. He's been around a long time and he's clearly been learning the game and he's now getting better with that belief and confidence.

If Luke Littler does blink then Lukeman has to be there.

Martin Lukeman, the world number 45, is the first to make his way to the stage.

There are plenty of friends and family wanting to wish him the best as he makes his entrance.

He is swiftly followed by Luke Littler, who is getting fairly used to these big occasions.

The teenager signs a couple of autographs and shares a warm hug with his opponent.

    It's business time.

Luke Littler has made the improbable possible twice in this tournament against Mike de Decker and Gary Anderson. He was in a dire situation both times, the opposition didn't falter, he just got better. He is so good when he needs to be good.

There used to be the whole 'you have to be experienced' but I don't believe in that anymore. When you're good enough, you're good enough. When you've got the game, you've got the game, and that is all that matters.

We know Littler can do it, but what we've seen this time is that he's doing it again and again.

Luke Littler cruised through the group stage, but he's shown he can dig in in the knockout stages.

What world-class players do is control those last-leg deciders and Littler does that beautifully.

This afternoon was some spectacle - we gave it some billing and it lived up to it. I feel sorry for Gary Anderson. He couldn't keep Luke Littler at bay though and that is testament to how good Littler is.

It looked like at one point he thought he couldn't do it, but he keeps finding a way.

Martin Lukeman has been getting better and better. The two wins against Rob Cross stand out.

He's talked a good game but he's backed it up.

The PDC's Order of Merit is based on a two-year rolling cycle of results and ordered by prize money won in ranking events.

Luke Littler has under a year's worth of results to contribute to his ranking, which is why he was 18th in the standings before the start of the Grand Slam.

He will rise to 10th if he loses tonight's final and fifth if he wins.

The teenager took home £275,000 for winning the Premier League and another £80,000 for winning the World Series of Darts finals, but the prize money from those tournaments does not count as they are invitational events.

    Martin Lukeman v Luke Littler

Luke Littler has been in excellent form throughout this Grand Slam tournament, although he has also been on the right side of a couple of last-leg deciders to reach tonight's final.

The 17-year-old dropped only four legs in breezing through the group phase but he squeezed past Mike de Decker 10-9 in the second round and, after a 16-2 quarter-final demolition of Jermaine Wattimena, overcame Gary Anderson 16-15 in a thrilling semi-final earlier today.

If Littler wins, it would add to his successes in the Premier League and World Series of Darts Finals - and be the perfect fillip heading into next month's World Championship.

Is Martin Lukeman's best game good enough to beat anyone? The answer is yes.

If his timing is spot on and Luke Littler is a little bit off then he's good enough.

He just can't get have off moments on his own throw because if he does then I can see Littler trying to show off. If Littler can relax he could win comfortably like on Saturday night in the quarter-finals.

  13. Lukeman into first major finalpublished at 19:34 Greenwich Mean Time 17 November 2024

    Martin Lukeman v Luke Littler

Martin Lukeman was one of eight players to come through a qualifying event in Leicester to reach the Grand Slam of Darts, and the 39-year-old is certainly loving his time in Wolverhampton.

Lukeman won all three of his matches to top a group that included former world champions Peter Wright and Rob Cross, and he beat Cross again at the quarter-final stage before seeing off Mickey Mansell in his semi-final earlier on Sunday.

That win booked his place in his first ever major televised final.

Victory in tonight's final will take Lukeman into the world's top 32, having started the event ranked 45th in the PDC's Order of Merit.

A win for Martin Lukeman would make it three PDC major tournaments in succession in which an unfancied winner has emerged.

Mike de Decker (pictured) and Ritchie Edhouse were big outsiders before going on to win their first majors at the World Grand Prix and European Championship respectively.

Will Lukeman make it a treble?

In many ways, this has been a tournament of surprises.

We started with 32 players in this year's Grand Slam of Darts in Wolverhampton and among the early casualties were the top three players in the PDC's Order of Merit rankings.

Defending champion Luke Humphries, Michael van Gerwen and Michael Smith all went out in the group phase and only one of the eight seeds, Rob Cross, made it to the quarter-finals.

Tonight, we will see whether Martin Lukeman or Luke Littler leave the West Midlands with the first prize of £150,000 and the Eric Bristow Trophy.

The second semi-final between Luke Littler and Gary Anderson was a Grand Slam classic.

Anderson, 36 years older than 17-year-old Littler, reeled off seven successive legs to move 11-7 in front - aided by a host of ton-plus finishes.

Littler fought back from 13-9 behind to level at 14-14, only to then lose the 29th leg on his throw and give Anderson a chance to throw for the match.

But the Premier League champion took the final two legs to close out victory, earning him a place in the final on his Grand Slam debut and denying the Scot a third Grand Slam final appearance.

Grand Slam of Darts final: Martin Lukeman v Luke Littler

After nine days of darting drama in Wolverhampton, it all comes down to this.

Martin Lukeman, in his first major final, takes on teenage sensation Luke Littler in the Grand Slam of Darts final.

It's the best of 31 legs, so the first to 16 wins.

Teenager Luke Littler will take on fellow Englishman Martin Lukeman in the final of the Grand Slam of Darts in Wolverhampton.

The final will get under way at about 19:45 GMT, and BBC Sport will be providing live text coverage of the best-of-31-legs final on this page later.

In one of the most enthralling matches in Grand Slam history, Littler came through in a deciding leg against Scotland's Gary Anderson - who missed out on a third final appearance at the event.

The 17-year-old led two-time world champion Anderson 7-4 before Anderson, 36 years his senior, won seven legs in a row to seize control of the contest.

But Premier League champion Littler fought back from 13-9 and 15-14 behind to clinch a thrilling victory.

It confirmed Littler will climb into the top 10 of the world rankings for the first time. Winning the final would take him up to fifth in the PDC's Order of Merit.

Earlier, qualifier Lukeman, 39, beat Northern Ireland's Mickey Mansell 16-12 in Sunday's first semi-final to book a place in his first major televised final.
