  1. 'He served the sport he loved brilliantly'published at 22:21 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March

There was some sad news from the world of darts earlier this week.

Tony Green, who commentated on the sport for the BBC for almost 40 years, died aged 85 on Monday. He had previously been diagnosed with Alzheimer's.

Many will also remember Green as a co-host of the long-running TV gameshow Bullseye.

Philip Bernie, interim director of BBC Sport, said Green was "truly a legendary figure" and added: "He was a wonderful commentator for the BBC for nearly 40 years, where the great warmth and generosity of his personality always shone through.

"He served the sport he loved brilliantly."

It took some time to get going, but Michael Smith found a bit of scoring form in the closing stages of that semi-final.

Luke Littler wasn't at his best either, but bows out in another semi-final and is slowing accumulating points as he bids to reach the play-offs in his debut Premier League season.

Smith will play Luke Humphries in the final, which will get under way in about 15 minutes.

    Littler 3-5 Smith

Littler hits a 180 and a 177 before landing a dart at double 15 to keep the match alive.

  6. Postpublished at 22:07 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March

    Littler 2-5 Smith

Littler leaves himself 170 - known as the "big fish" as it's the highest three-dart checkout - but he can't reel it in on this occasion, narrowly missing the bullseye.

Smith steps in to go 5-2 up and within one leg of the final.

    Littler 2-4 Smith

Whatever happens in this match, Michael Smith can at least say he's met Mario and Luigi.

    Darts, eh?!

    Littler 2-4 Smith

Littler is usually so reliable on double 10 but he can't find it in this leg. Smith does find the double, though, and the gap is back to two.

  9. Postpublished at 22:03 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March

    Littler 2-3 Smith

Another two missed darts at double, this time from Michael Smith, and Luke Littler breaks back to move within one leg of the 2023 world champion.

  10. Postpublished at 22:01 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March

    Littler 1-3 Smith

Smith, way back on 202, puts some pressure on Littler with a 140.

The teenager misses at tops and double 10, but finds the double five with his last dart.

    A hold of throw.

Michael Smith made a meal of that but he's halfway to the final now.

Littler needs a couple of breaks to turn this around now.

There's a rat-a-tat-tat speed to this semi-final - these two like to get on with it.

They're both scoring much better than in their respective quarter-finals - but are both missing doubles!

Smith eventually gets it done on double one.

  13. Postpublished at 21:57 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March

    Littler 0-2 Smith

    Smith into a 2-0 lead.

Littler missed the bull for an 86 checkout and Smith is on hand to take out 120 in slightly unorthodox fashion - his second dart hits tops rather than single 20, so it's down to double 10 to win the leg.

It seems like only yesterday that Michael Smith was knocking Phil Taylor out of the World Championship in December 2013 and being hailed as the youngster who could dominate darts in the future.

Aged 33, he's got one world title under his belt and he's still got plenty of years ahead of him.

It's a straightforward hold of throw to get this semi-final under way.

Luke Littler and Michael Smith are on the stage and all smiles as they prepare to get their semi-final under way.

Smith will throw first in the opener.

  16. Postpublished at 21:49 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March

    Result: Humphries 6-3 Cross

    How good was that?!

Amazing, but still a long way short of the record three-dart average in a broadcast darts match.

Peter Wright holds that accolade - he averaged 123.53 in a win over Krzysztof Ratajski in a Players Championship event in 2019.

The Premier League record average is Michael van Gerwen's 123.4 in a win over Michael Smith in Aberdeen in 2016.

  17. Semi-final #2published at 21:46 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March

    Littler v Smith

Luke Littler and Michael Smith will shortly have the challenge of trying to follow that exceptional first semi-final.

Neither was at their best in their earlier victories - Littler defeated in-form Nathan Aspinall 6-3, while Michael Smith got past Peter Wright in a deciding leg.

    Result: Humphries 6-3 Cross

The performance of a world champion sends Luke Humphries into the final in Brighton.

Rob Cross - take a bow too, mate. What a match.

Humphries averaged 113.71, Cross an even 108. Darts from the gods.

  20. Postpublished at 21:41 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March

    Humphries 5-3 Cross

Luke Humphries takes out 71 this time and he's one leg away from the final.

But Rob Cross is playing his part in this match - an incredible standard.

112 plays 110 in the averages.
