These are worrying times for Michael van Gerwen's form. He didn't play well last week either.

Cross has a much more deliberate throw than the pacier Van Gerwen, but the darts of both players absolutely thud into the board.

Cross is unable to take out 110, missing double 16. Van Gerwen can't take out 78 and Cross mops up to take the lead for the first time.

Michael van Gerwen has beaten all of the field in this year's competition, and we're only in week six.

    Cross 1-1 Van Gerwen

Rob Cross is on the board. He misses his first attempt at double 16 but the shot at double eight finds the red bit to take the leg.

If you get broken in the Premier League, with this best-of-11 format, it's hard to get it back.

    Cross 0-1 Van Gerwen

Michael van Gerwen throws first in the opening leg and Rob Cross scores well early on, giving him a shot at the bull to break, which is way off target.

And Van Gerwen makes him pay, taking out 107.

    Cross v Van Gerwen

Big receptions for Rob Cross and Michael van Gerwen.

The Brighton crowd sing Van Gerwen's name along to his walk-on music, "Seven Nation Army", as he enters the arena.

    Cross v Van Gerwen

Split image of Rob Cross and Michael van Gerwen

Michael van Gerwen missed the chance to make it four successive night wins last Thursday in Exeter, losing his quarter-final to world number one Luke Humphries.

However, the Dutch thrower still has a six-point lead at the top of the table and will remain at the summit regardless of the outcome tonight.

A total of 24 points from the 16 nights has been enough for the fourth qualifying spot in each of the two years since the Premier League adopted this format in 2022, so Van Gerwen - currently on 15 - is well on course to reach the play-offs again in May as he seeks a record-extending eighth title.

Rob Cross has shown some decent form in recent times, getting to two semi-finals and a final in the past three Premier League nights.

He also got to the last eight of the UK Open, but was well below par in his quarter-final defeat by Ricky Evans.

One player who isn't involved tonight is new UK Open champion Dimitri van den Bergh.

The Belgian came through a field of 158 players in Minehead to win the £110,000 first prize, beating world champion and world number one Luke Humphries 11-10 in the final.

That victory lifted Van den Bergh, a former World Matchplay champion, to seventh in the PDC's Order of Merit ranking system.

    Breaking

    Result: Humphries 6-2 Price

Very nicely done in the end by Luke Humphries, who takes four legs in a row and is into the semi-finals in Brighton.

The world number one finishes with a 105.50 three-dart average - if you're new to the sport, anything above 100 is considered to be very, very good.

But there's more disappointment for birthday boy Gerwyn Price, who has now lost his past three quarter-final matches in the Premier League.

The fact Luke Humphries didn't play in the Premier League last year is probably helping him. He can come in as the alpha now.

    Humphries 5-2 Price

With Price way back on 2019, Humphries finishes on double 10 and is now one leg away from another semi-final appearance.

It's looking improbable now that Price can rally back.

    Humphries 4-2 Price

Is this going to be the key moment? Luke Humphries finds his scoring boots and finishes in 11 darts against the throw to go within two legs of victory.

Starts the next one with a 180 too...

I was impressed with Luke Humphries in the UK Open - the way he dismissed players and recorded heavy wins in the later stages. He was dominating without playing well.

    Humphries 3-2 Price

Another solid hold for Luke Humphries, who won their only previous meeting in this year's Premier League - a semi-final in Glasgow.

  18. Postpublished at 19:27 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March

    Humphries 2-2 Price

A comfortable hold of throw in response by Price, who starts leg four with a maximum and gets it done in 12 darts with a 91 finish.

    Humphries 2-1 Price

A break straight back by Luke Humphries, who misses a couple of darts at double 16 before finally getting the job done on his next turn.
