Many darts fans in Minehead might have hoped to see a Luke Humphries v Luke Littler final, but James Wade had other ideas.

Three-time UK Open champion Wade won a thrilling quarter-final against world number one Humphries 10-9 - and he credited to peaking at the right moment in the contest.

Wade, 41, told ITV4: "I am really grateful to win the match and I think I deserved it. I was probably a little weak at the beginning and was quite grateful at the end that Luke missed opportunities and opened the door for me.

"It's about timing and the young darts players need to learn it's not about the big averages but timing of the right things at the right time. Unfortunately they're going to learn from me and there's going to be more of them."

The big shock of Sunday's afternoon session was the exit of world number one Luke Humphries, who was beaten 10-9 in a thrilling quarter-final by three-time UK Open champion James Wade.

In the deciding leg, Wade - who won the tournament in 2008, 2011 and 2021 - kept his cool to throw two maximums en route to a superb 11-dart leg, wrapping it up with double top.

He'll play Northern Ireland's Josh Rock in the second of tonight's semi-finals.

    Here are the quarter-final results:

    • Gian van Veen 4-10 Luke Littler

Luke Littler cruised into the semi-finals earlier with a 10-4 win over Dutchman Gian van Veen and was happy to see off a tricky opponent.

World champion Littler, 18, told ITV4: "Gian is getting into quarters and semis and doing well in TV events. He's getting up the rankings. I'm sure he'll be in the top 16 and top 10 very soon.

"I was very happy with my performance. It's another win and I'm back tonight for the final session. Myself and Gian have played many times and both our throws suit each other and we just like to get on with it. That certainly helped me.

"I think I've played nearly everyone on tour now so don't mind who it is I face in the semi-final tonight."

Littler will play Welshman Jonny Clayton in the semi-finals after he claimed a 10-8 win over former world champion Michael Smith.
