He may not be world champion anymore but it's been a decent start to 2025 for Luke Humphries.

He withstood a stunning Jonny Clayton comeback to win the World Masters 6-5 in a final leg shootout.

The English world number one looked to be cruising to victory at 5-2 before his Welsh opponent won three straight sets to force a decider in Milton Keynes.

A dramatic finale went down to the last possible leg before Humphries, 29, eventually nailed double 20 to seal the £100,000 first prize.

It is a seventh major title in 15 months for Humphries, who went out in the last 16 in December when looking to retain his world title.

Last, but by no means least, of this evening's quarter-finals sees former World Matchplay winner Nathan Aspinall play world number one Luke Humphries.

Aspinall is playing in his sixth Premier League with a run to the final, where he lost to Glen Durrant, in 2020 as close as he has come to victory.

Humphries matched that in his debut Premier League campaign last year, losing out to Luke Littler in the final, and the 2024 world champion will want to go one better this time.

The 29-year-old will want to show why he is still the world's top-ranked player after losing in the quarters at the Worlds.

Aspinall also has a point to prove. He has slipped to 10th in the world and was a somewhat controversial pick after a mixed 2024 - he'll be out to show it's not just his crowd-pleasing walk-on that has earned him a place in the competition...

A chance for everyone to catch their breath and for my fingers to recover after so much furious typing!

The numbers are quite remarkable. Luke Littler averaged 113.91 and lost!

Michael van Gerwen was not too far behind on 105.91 and it was six apiece on 180s.

Littler was also more clinical on the outer ring at 45.5% to MVG's 31.6% but it is the Dutchman who advances.

    Breaking

    Littler 5-6 Van Gerwen

What a match - and Michael van Gerwen, finally, clinches the win!

A 180 was the ideal way to start the leg and he kept the upper hand from there.

The Dutchman misses bull for a 124 checkout but when Luke Littler is unable to take out 167, MVG is back.

Double eight is found and a ridiculous match comes to an end.
