Krysten Coombs has had to fight hard to get to his first Paralympic final after losing his opening match at the tournament.

He is the British number two behind Jack Shephard and with only one athlete per nation guaranteed a spot at the Games, both for Tokyo and Paris, he had to rely on a discretionary place becoming available - but he has made the most of his opportunity.

As well as being a talented sportsman, Coombs has also dabbled in acting and appeared as an extra in Game of Thrones, where he was in the fourth series episode ‘The Purple Wedding’, and has also been in The Witcher.

Krysten Coombs will aim to create history when he goes in the SH6 final, hoping to become the first Briton to win a Para-badminton gold medal.

The 33-year-old, who won bronze in Tokyo when the sport made its debut in 2021, will face home favourite Charles Noakes, who will definitely have the larger share of support at La Chapelle Arena.

The pair know each other well, with Noakes holding a narrow 6-5 advantage in their head-to-head record.

The Frenchman was victorious when they met at the World Championships earlier this year but Coombs won their most recent meeting at June's Four Nations event in Glasgow.

Jodie Grinham - whose second baby is due in October - has punched through another glass ceiling with her Paralympic gold this evening.

"All I wanted to do was jump up and down and cry and scream and shout," she told me afterwards.

"But I'm heavily pregnant. So the best thing for me to do realistically was just crouch down and take a second. Then I could give hugs. Because the emotion was just a wave.

"The idea is to show that nothing is impossible and to go out there and absolutely smash it. Thankfully I've got an amazing team partner [in Nathan Macqueen] and we smashed it together."
