Swansea City have completed the signing of German goalkeeper Gerhard Tremmel on a two-year contract.

The 32-year-old had been on trial with Swansea and impressed in friendlies against Celtic and Real Betis.

"I have good experience to share from my time playing in the Bundesliga, and that could help us," said Tremmel.

Boss Brendan Rodgers earlier signed Michel Vorm, external and Jose Moreira, external after Dorus de Vries' departure, external to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

But the Premier League club signed former Red Bull Salzburg stopper Tremmel so he could allow youngster David Cornell, who has joined Hereford on loan, to get first-team experience elsewhere.

Tremmel, who also previously played for Hertha Berlin, Energie Cottbus and Hannover, is under no illusions as to the task ahead.

"I've got a big challenge ahead of me," said Tremmel.

"Of course, I have to be patient because Michel has been playing very well and Jose is also pushing to play.

"However, I feel I have good experience to share from my time playing in the Bundesliga, and that could help us this season.

"But first I need to get my chance, which I will work hard for and I will also be patient.

"I'm just looking forward to getting started officially as a Swansea player."
