Harrogate Town moved to ninth in Blue Square Bet North with a 2-1 win over Gainsborough Trinity.

Harrogate's goals came from Alex Meechan and Richard Pell with Jamie Yates replying for Gainsborough.

Manager Simon Weaver told BBC Radio York, external: "We've beaten a good, top three team. We've got six players injured.

"It was a squad effort and it's real achievement to beat a good Gainsborough team with all those injuries. I'm very proud of the squad."

He added: "We had two lads on crutches in the changing room encouraging the lads before the game."

Town's win followed a midweek FA Cup defeat by Frickley.

"They were more brave today (Saturday)," added Weaver. "We are good enough squad to do something this season.

"Maybe in that respect we were poor the other night in terms of being a bit negative, but we learnt from it and today was a good display."

Meechan's goal came on his debut after joining the club on a one-month loan from AFC Telford United.

"He scored a goal the same as that on Thursday night [in training], so maybe he got a good feel for it," commented Weaver.

"He was bursting to play because he's been out of the scene at Telford.

"He's a big personality, you can see that. He bounces around the place wants the ball, encourages younger lads and he gave us the tonic we needed."

Gainsborough boss Steve Housham told BBC Lincolnshire: "We started well but we looked vulnerable with what was more or less a completely new back four and we were over-run a little.

"We took our foot off the pedal after the first 10 minutes and didn't really get the ball down and play so I'm disappointed."
