A late Matt Birley goal earned Worcester City victory in an incident-packed Blue Square Bet North clash with Harrogate Town.

City twice led through Luke Corbett and Mike Symons but Harrogate levelled through Jonny Allan and Luke Dean.

Harrogate keeper Zac Jones was red-carded for a foul but Corbett's penalty was saved by defender, and stand-in keeper, Paul Heckingbottom.

But Birley made amends for the hosts when he netted on 90 minutes.

'It is never dull' - Worcester boss Heeley

"We are certainly not getting carried away with it and we are not kidding ourselves at all.

"If we are to stay up there obviously you have to win games, but to win games we have got to perform a little bit better than that.

"That is certainly true on home soil so we are under no illusions and nobody will get carried away as it is still relatively early in the season and there is a long way to go."

Harrogate manager Simon Weaver told BBC Radio York, external:

"It's a game about results and they dictate at the end of the day. I was so proud of the lads - everyone played their part."

"I don't want to concentrate too much on the extremes of our injury situation and suspensions.

"The passion was there, and I asked for commitment, honesty, attitude, all these key words before the game and they certainly brought that to the table.

"As well as that they brought ability. I thought we passed it well on a good surface against a team that are on a good run.

"I think they can't believe their luck because the snatched all three points."
