Harrogate Town defence pleases manager Simon Weaver

Harrogate Town manager Simon Weaver praised his side's defensive effort in their 2-1 win against Hinckley United.

Robbie Youhill and Richard Pell scored to give Harrogate the lead before Andre Gray pulled one back for Hinckley in the second half.

Harrogate manager Simon Weaver told BBC Radio York: "This is a team that scored five goals against Stalybridge.

"We knew we had to do defensive work to nullify their threats and I think it worked well."

Harrogate Town ended the game with just 10 men after Stephen Turnbull was controversially sent off for violent conduct in the second half.

Weaver said: "I didn't see it. To be fair he did say he raised his hands but it wasn't a punch or anything.

"He pushed the lad as a reaction to a dangerous tackle. I just said 'learn your lessons'.

"You can't do that in football. That's the rules."

The win has moved Harrogate Town up to 16th in Blue Square Bet North.

Weaver added: "We need to get away from the fear factor of being in the lower third (of the table).

"We need to get up towards mid-table. We've got the capabilities of doing so.

"Today was about the three points and we really don't care if we weren't too entertaining today.

"We need to bag enough points so we're not worried in the last 10 games."
