Truro City players threaten to quit over unpaid wages

Blue Square Bet South side Truro City's players have threatened to quit the club next Thursday after not being paid their wages.

Truro, who are embroiled in a High Court battle over unpaid debts, should begin their season in two weeks.

"At the moment, the club is still alive but only for the next week, it's not looking good," assistant manager Dave Newton told BBC Radio Cornwall.

Should the players quit, the club could struggle to fulfil their fixtures.

"We're hoping that something can be resolved with our chairman and the company that have bought the land for the club," striker Andy Watkins told BBC South West.

"But if the monies are not paid next Thursday we will leave the club as of next week.

"It's been a difficult decision, myself and a lot of the lads have been there for a number of years and we feel passionately about the club.

"But it's got to the stage where it is part of our job and we need to be paid and if that's going to happen we need to leave."

Investors want to take over the club from chairman Kevin Heaney, but an agreement has not been reached and there is no money to pay the squad.

Goalkeeper Tim Sandercome tweeted: "The happiest I've been at a club with great players yet it's all come to an end.

"Been such a great club to be at just a shame that, off the pitch, it's been horrendous."

But midfielder Adam Kelly, also on Twitter, said there was hope for them to stay, if they were paid: "They have seven days to pay our wages else we are all leaving, it's been emotional."
