Truro City players agree to stay until 11 October

Truro City's players have agreed to stay with the club until at least the Football Conference deadline for a takeover of the club on 11 October.

The White Tigers beat Bath City 2-1 in their final Blue Square Bet South fixture before the deadline.

"All players have decided that we'll hold on until the 11th and wait in the hope of someone buying the club," boss Lee Hodges told BBC Spotlight.

"There was no-one there who said they weren't going to stay."

Stewart Yetton put the White Tigers ahead after 29 minutes in what could be the final game at Treyew Road before Kurtis Guthrie equalised five minutes before half-time.

But Yetton's second strike four minutes from the end of the game sealed City's first win in five matches.

The players had said they would leave the club after Tuesday's match if no new buyer came forward.

Truro are in after owner and left the club to fight a debt claim of £700,000.

Administrator Kate Breese says the players' loyalty is key to getting a buyer for the club.

"It was a unanimous decision, they're sticking together for the sake of the club," she told BBC South West.

"If they don't stick with us we don't have anything to take forward to a purchaser.

"It's a difficult decision for them as they're not being paid, but they have agreed to stick together for the sake of the club as we try and find a purchaser."

And Breese says there is still time to save Truro.

"If there are interested parties that haven't come forward it isn't too late," she added.

"We do have this deadline of next Thursday so every day and every hour counts.

"If people do want to come forward they have to do so now."

Hodges and his players are desperate for someone to save the club, which has risen from amateur football in Cornwall to the sixth tier of the English game in a decade.

"We hope there'll be some talk over the next few days from other interested parties but we'll have to wait and see," he said.

"None of the players want to see this club die, so hopefully someone will be out there to take this club forward."
