Guernsey FC boss Tony Vance pleased with Molesey point

Guernsey FC manager Tony Vance says his side were lucky to get a point after their 1-1 draw at Molesey.

It was the Green Lions' first match for five weeks after poor weather forced them to call off several games.

"In some ways we were fortunate to get a point in the end," Vance told BBC Guernsey.

"They certainly had most of the chances in first half and we didn't play in the areas we needed to do, so it's a positive point."

Vance added: "It was always going to be one of those tough games where we had to blow some cobwebs off.

"We haven't played for five weeks, that's not an excuse, whilst they've been training hard and their fitness levels have been fairly decent, despite not having any games, you miss the touch of the ball and the play in a match situation."

But third-placed Guernsey were helped by the two sides above them in the Combined Counties Premier League table both losing.

Leaders Egham Town lost 4-2 at Croydon while second-placed Badshot Lea went down 3-2 at Horley Town.

"At one stage we though we'd dropped two points and the leaders would take the initiative back," added Vance.

"Normally I don't take any interest in the other team's results as we've got over 20 games to go and a lot of points to fight for.

"There'll be plenty more twists and turns in the league, but it was a positive and it's a point gained rather than two points lost."
