Gateshead v Barrow match to be played at Holker Street

Gateshead's FA Trophy home tie against Barrow has moved to their opponent's Holker Street after two postponements at the International Stadium.

Seven of the Tynesiders last eight home fixtures have failed to go ahead due to problems with their pitch.

This caused Gateshead to look at other options in the North East including St James' Park, the Stadium of Light and New Ferens Park to play the Barrow tie.

However, these were unsuccessful and the game will be in Cumbria on Tuesday.

Despite being 135 miles away from their own ground the game will still be regarded as a home tie for Gateshead, and if a replay is required that too will take place at Barrow.

"We have made every attempt to stage the tie in the North East, but unfortunately we have not been able to find a suitable solution," said Tynesiders chairman Graham Wood.

Weather in the region has played havoc with the Gateshead fixture schedule, and they have only played one home match since November, incidentally a 1-0 loss against Barrow on New Year's Day.

As a result, the club had planned to play the upcoming FA Trophy clash on the artificial pitch at New Ferens Park, home to Durham City, but FA rules stipulate opponents must be given at least ten days notice before a game is to be played on an artificial surface.

And after being turned down by Premier League Newcastle and Sunderland, the club decided their only option was to play in Cumbria.
