Plymouth Argyle: John Sheridan confident of avoiding drop

Plymouth manager John Sheridan has full faith his side will avoid relegation from the Football League this season.

Since Sheridan took over in January, Argyle have only lost once in five League Two matches, but only lie above the relegation zone on goal difference.

Asked by BBC Radio Devon whether he was confident he could guide his side to safety from relegation, Sheridan replied: "Definitely.

"In the bottom eight we have the second best form in the last five games."

He added: "If we can do that in the next five games, I'll be well happy and it'll give us a chance of staying clear of the bottom two."

Saturday's 1-0 defeat at home by Oxford United was their first since Sheridan replaced Carl Fletcher at Home Park on 6 January.

And following the loss, the former Oldham and Chesterfield manager revealed that he has had a meeting with his players to discuss their commitment in games.

"The only thing that is bothering me at the moment is how we're playing," the 48-year-old commented.

"I've had a meeting with the players, I want them to be brave. I'd rather see them do the right things and be confident doing the right things than not try at all.

"I just think it was disappointing last week with the style of performance."
