John Sheridan set to stay on as Plymouth Argyle boss

John Sheridan is set to stay on as manager of Plymouth Argyle.

The 48 year-old after Carl Fletcher was sacked.

Sheridan agreed a deal until the end of the season but chairman James Brent told the BBC he was hopeful he would extend his tenure at Home Park.

"The fine details of the appointment are to be ironed out, and both parties are confident that a deal will finalised within the next few days," said a statement from the club.

Sheridan took charge of the side when it was in the League Two relegation places.

He was named League Two Manager of the Month for March after a run of four wins and a draw in six matches, including a victory in the Devon derby over Exeter, which effectively secured their survival in the Football League.

Despite losing four of their next six games, two more wins at home to Cheltenham and away at Sheridan's former club Chesterfield meant that even with defeat at Rochdale on the final day on the season the club finished a point above the relegation zone.

"Further announcements regarding John's position and the playing squad for 2013-14 will be made as and when appropriate," the club statement added.

"Everyone at Home Park is thrilled that John is staying with us, pledges their full support to him, and wishes him every continued success as Plymouth Argyle manager."
