Guernsey FC: Tony Vance downbeat despite team's victory

Guernsey FC boss Tony Vance believes his side's title hopes are over despite their 2-1 win at Bedfont Sports.

A penalty from Green Lions' Dom Heaume was cancelled out by George Baldock.

And even with Ollie McKenzie's winner, Vance says leaders Egham, who beat Horley on Tuesday, will not be caught going into the final weekend of the Combined Counties Premier Division.

"People need to understand we're not going to win the league, and that's a fact," he told BBC Guernsey.

For Guernsey to overtake Egham, the Green Lions would need to win their final four fixtures - all this weekend due to a fixtures backlog- and hope the Surrey-based team do not defeat Bedfont.

And Vance feels Egham will have too much for their opponents come Saturday.

"There's no way they are going to slip up, and if I'm being brutally honest, I'm not convinced we are going to get four wins," he commented.

"As I've said before, it's virtually an impossible task. But we know the finish line is there, and if we can somehow claw four wins out of four, then we know we will be promoted."

Tuesday's game was the club's 16th in April, caused by a combination the club's run to the FA Vase semi-final and wet weather forcing their Footes Lane pitch to be deemed unplayable throughout much of December, January and February.
