Barnsley boss David Flitcroft has signed a new rolling contract with the Championship club.

The 39-year-old took over when Keith Hill was sacked in December on a deal until the end of the season.

The Tykes were bottom of the table when he took over, but nine wins from 21 league matches helped them survive on the last day of the season.

Flitcroft's assistants Micky Mellon and Martin Scott have also agreed deals to stay with the Oakwell side.

Barnsley director Don Rowing told BBC Radio Sheffield earlier this week he was confident the Flitcroft would sign a new contract.

Rowing said: "He's spoken with us and hopefully it won't be too long until he puts pen to paper.

"He knows what he wants and he's already said that he wants to keep the bulk of the team together, someone who didn't want the job wouldn't do that."

As well as guiding the side to Championship safety, Flitcroft also led the Tykes to the FA Cup quarter-finals, where they were beaten by Manchester City.
