Harry Redknapp: QPR boss still looking to strengthen squad

QPR manager Harry Redknapp says he is still looking to strengthen his squad before the transfer window closes.

Redknapp has made six new signings this summer following a string of exits to cut the wage bill at Loftus Road.

He told BBC London 94.9: "I know what we need and I still feel the squad is a few players short.

"If you are going to win this league or get promoted you have to be that much better than the other teams. We do need to improve and we all know that."

Following their relegation from the Premier League in May, a number of high earners have left the west London club, either on loan or permanently.

Christopher Samba, Djibril Cisse, Jose Bosingwa, Loic Remy, Esteban Granero, Park Ji-Sung, Stephane Mbia, Adel Taarabt and Anton Ferdinand are among those who have departed.

Meanwhile, the club have brought in Danny Simpson, Richard Dunne, Karl Henry, Charlie Austin, Gary O'Neil and Matt Phillips as they look to secure an immediate return to the top flight.

"People keep saying we have got a strong squad, but we haven't got that strong a squad," Redknapp continued.

"Eighteen players have left here. Eighteen players that would have been in my team last year, regular and all.

"No disrespect, a lot of them were better players, but they were big earners and we had to let them go.

"We've maybe brought five or six in, but I still feel we are three or four short still of real quality, if we are going to make the difference."

QPR have made an unbeaten start to the Championship season, with victories over Sheffield Wednesday, Ipswich and Bolton and a draw at Huddersfield, but were knocked out of the Capital One Cup by League One side Swindon on Tuesday.

"There have been very close games that could have gone either way and at the moment I think we have just about edged every game," Redknapp added.

"We are looking round to make a few signings in the next week or so that will make the difference.

"We want to get a couple of players in that can push us on that little bit extra."
