Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes wants more quality from players

Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes said his players need to "show more quality" after their 1-0 defeat by Ross County in Dingwall.

Rocco Quinn's second-half strike separated the sides in the league encounter and McInnes felt his players reacted to the deficit too late.

"The most disappointing aspect was that we never saw tempo in any real evidence until we went behind," said McInnes.

"There was plenty of endeavour, but we have to show more quality and tempo."

The defeat brings and end to a six-match unbeaten run for the Dons and marks only the second goal McInnes's men have conceded in seven matches.

Despite the defeat, McInnes felt his players worked hard enough in the latter stages of the match, but need to adopt a more conservative approach to their football to overturn difficult situations in future.

"I thought that we were hard-working enough and there was an honesty about us, with plenty of effort," said McInnes.

"I don't think we lost that battle, but we had to bring far more tempo and pace into the game, and we were throwing things in too early at times, we should have shown a bit more poise and confidence and our desire to get the equaliser.

"We were making wrong decisions and at times we needed to show a bit more balance and create better opportunities.

"There was better performances from the players, but we know that to be at our best and cause the opposition more problems, we've got to play with more tempo.

"If we started the game the way we finished it, we might have had a better outcome.

"We've still got loads of work to do here, but what we have shown in that run is enough good play at times, and a real togetherness.

"We need to try and maintain that, and recognise that the onus is on us every Saturday and impose ourselves on the opposition."
