Man Utd: I'll take full responsibility, says David Moyes

Manager David Moyes says he takes "complete responsibility" for Manchester United's recent defeats but is confident his team will improve.

United have lost their last two Premier League games at Old Trafford and are 13 points behind leaders Arsenal.

Moyes said: "The players are hurting because they're used to winning. They'll respond in the right way.

"I need to make sure I'm getting the best out of the players and we are performing as well as we possibly can."

United have lost five league games so far this season, with three of those coming at home, and have taken just two points from their last four outings.

And recent defeats against Everton and Newcastle - the first time United have suffered back-to-back home losses since 2002 - have increased the pressure on Moyes.

The 50-year-old Scot, who replaced Sir Alex Ferguson as manager in the summer, admitted his team had been inconsistent.

"It's tough because the expectancy is to win all the games," added the former Everton manager.

"We've played very well in some games in the Champions League, not so well in the Premier League, albeit we've lacked a bit of fortune which could have made a difference.

"We'd generally like to pass it better, create more chances and defend better.

"I take complete responsibility for the results. I would like them to be much better and I've got no doubt they will."

United have enjoyed better results in Europe and host Shakhtar Donetsk on Tuesday having already ensured their place in the knockout stages of the Champions League.

"The big job was to make sure we qualify and that job is done," said Moyes ahead of Tuesday's match. "Hopefully we can finish the group unbeaten."
