Midfielder Jonjo Shelvey has been ruled out of Swansea's Europa League second leg clash with Napoli in Italy.

Swansea held the Italians 0-0 in the first leg of the last 32 at the Liberty Stadium.

Shelvey, 21, who scored in the Swans' 4-3 defeat at Liverpool, is out with a hamstring injury.

"Jonjo has a slight hamstring so we are not risking him for Thursday, but he should be available for the weekend," said head coach Garry Monk.

Shelvey should be fit for Swansea's Premier League clash with Crystal Palace at the Liberty Stadium on Sunday, 2 March.

Swansea, who impressed against Rafa Benitez's Napoli side, know a place in the last 16 of the Europa League is at stake on Thursday.

With the tie poised at 0-0 following the first leg an away goal could prove crucial to the Welsh side's chances of staying in Europe.

Monk will also be without injured talisman Michu, who has been sidelined with an ankle injury, but hopes he will be back in training next week.

"He has been in Spain and he is coming back to Swansea (Thursday)," said Monk.

"Obviously, we will assess him and then build his fitness up from there, but it won't be too much because he was nearly back in training when he went out there.

"He could join in some part of training next week."

Spanish international Michu, who signed for Swansea in 2012, scored 22 goals for the Swans last season.

He has not featured for the club since Swansea's 1-1 draw at Norwich City on 14 December.
