Aberdeen boss McInnes calls on players to show more belief

Manager Derek McInnes has urged his Aberdeen side to take more shots at goal after their 0-0 draw with Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

The Dons' best effort came in the first half when Niall McGinn hit the bar after great work by Peter Pawlett.

"The one thing that is doing my head in is a reluctance to shoot and they need to show more belief," said McInnes.

"But I thought we were very comfortable for long periods and played some good football."

The second-placed Dons could have extended their lead over Motherwell to six points with a victory, but the draw stretched their unbeaten run to eight games in the Scottish Premiership.

And McInnes was pleased with his players' response after their 2-1 defeat by St Johnstone in last week's Scottish Cup semi-final.

"We created a lot of good chances, although, with Billy McKay on the pitch Inverness can always create chances," said the Dons manager.

"I have a dressing room of disappointed boys and that is what I like about them - they came here to win.

"A lot of people thought we would have tired legs after the Scottish Cup semi-final, but we answered up tonight.

"Some managers bang on about their style of play, but we just get on with it and we played some good stuff."
