Simpson helped QPR to gain promotion to the Premier League

Leicester City have signed Queens Park Rangers defender Danny Simpson on a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee.

Simpson, 27, joined QPR on a free transfer in June 2013 after being released by Newcastle United.

The former Manchester United trainee made 33 league appearances as Rangers won promotion from the Championship via the play-offs last season.

Full-back Simpson will not feature in Leicester's home Premier League game against Arsenal on Sunday.

"I'm really pleased that we have been able to secure a defender of Danny's quality. He will add more good competition to our squad, which is very healthy for the group," manager Nigel Pearson said.

Simpson is Leicester's second signing in three days following the arrival of former Inter Milan midfielder Esteban Cambiasso.
