Swansea City squad a lot stronger, says captain Ashley Williams

Captain Ashley Williams believes Swansea City's squad is stronger than it was last season.

The Swans, whose 100% start to the Premier League season ended at Chelsea, lost high profile players such as Michu and Ben Davies over the summer.

But Wales skipper Williams believes the Swans have more than replaced those they have lost.

"I think the squad is a lot stronger to be honest," Williams said.

"We've got a lot more quality, we've got better personality and that's not taking away from the guys that were here last year.

"We're really tight in there.

"I've been in dressing rooms before where you starting breaking things down straight away and pointing the finger.

"That didn't happen at all. We just spoke about what we should have done and what we could have done better.

"It's a good place to play at the minute."

Other players to have left Swansea during the close season include goalkeeper Michel Vorm, defender Chico Flores and midfielders Pablo Hernandez and Jose Canas.

Summer arrivals at the Liberty Stadium included Lukasz Fabianski, Federico Fernandez, Jefferson Montero and Bafetimbi Gomis.

Midfielder Ki Sung-yueng returned following a season-long loan at Sunderland, while Gylfi Sigurdsson and Marvin Emnes also rejoined the club.

Swansea have started the season in impressive form, although they suffered their first defeat away to Chelsea.

John Terry's own goal had given the Swans the lead at Stamford Bridge, before Diego Costa equalised just before half-time and then scored two more goals in the second half.

Loic Remy added a fourth after coming off the bench before Jonjo Shelvey scored a late consolation goal for Swansea in a 4-2 defeat.

Despite dropping points for the first time this season, Swansea remain third in the Premier League and face Southampton at the Liberty Stadium on Saturday.
