Striker Sam Vokes says he would love to be fit for Wales' two Euro 2016 qualifiers in October.

The 24-year-old has not played for Burnley or Wales since suffering a serious knee injury in March.

Wales began their campaign with a 2-1 win in Andorra and Vokes hopes to be fit for the qualifiers against Bosnia-Hercegovina on 10 October and Cyprus on 13 October at the Cardiff City Stadium.

"If I'm back playing games I'd love to be involved in them," he said.

"But I'm not going to put pressure on myself to be fit for them.

"There are a lot of boxes I need to tick off before I can announce I'm fit."

Vokes joined up with Chris Coleman's squad ahead of the Group B opener in Andorra, which Wales won despite falling behind early on.

The former Bournemouth and Wolves player ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament in a 2-0 Championship defeat to Leicester in March and has been pleased with his recovery.

"It's been nearly five-and-a-half months now since my surgery so it's slowly coming along," Vokes added.

"It's fully healed now and I'm back out on the grass, running and working hard. I'm building it up every day.

"I've ticked the box of running straight lines and now I'm working on the twisting and turning.

"That's the main thing - not getting carried away when you start running outside and almost full-pelt sprinting."

"You kind of think you can get involved, but when you start twisting and turning you feel all the aches and pains that come with that."

Burnley secured promotion to the Premier League last season, although Sean Dyche's side have yet to win on their return to the top flight.

"It's been a tough start to the season with Chelsea, Manchester United and Swansea away in our second game of the season," Vokes said.

"It was a tough task for the boys but they picked up a couple of points and another good point at the weekend away from home [against Crystal Palace].

"At this stage of the season we're gaining the experience and picking up the points where we can."
