Sheffield United reached the semi-final of last season's FA Cup

Michael Higdon's early goal was enough to book Sheffield United's place in the Capital One Cup fourth round at the expense of Leyton Orient.

The visitors made the perfect start as Higdon rose in the box to head home Jamie Murphy's cross in the second minute at Brisbane Road.

Murphy could have made it 2-0 himself soon after but his shot was off target.

Orient pushed for an equaliser and came close when Mark Howard tipped Elliot Omozusi's 25-yard shot on to the post.

Jobi McAnuff also tested Howard with a long-range effort but the keeper was equal to it with a smart save, and Jay Simpson sent a pass across the face of goal but none of his colleagues were on hand to apply a finish.

Ultimately, last season's FA Cup semi-finalists proved too stubborn for Orient and deservedly advanced to the fourth round.
