Guernsey FC: Tony Vance 'enjoying' squad difficulties

Vance's side have not win in the league since 27 September

Guernsey FC manager Tony Vance says he is enjoying the club's poor run of form "in a bizarre way".

The Green Lions have won just one of their last seven games in Isthmian League Division One South and have dropped to 15th in the table.

The club has a host of injuries to key players which has forced Vance to blood some untried youngsters.

"In a bizarre way I've quite enjoyed it. What it means is we're giving other people an opportunity," he said.

"We go in there with nothing to lose, expecting the fact that we're going to be up against it and scrap for everything we can.

"Most of all, it's a chance to blood some younger players and we had eight different players to last year. It's eight people who have been exposed to football that they'd never been able to get had we not been in this situation.

"It's very important that we stay competitive, but sustainability for the club is the vital thing really," he told BBC Radio Guernsey.

Players such as Danny Hale and Liam Mahon have made their Guernsey debuts in recent weeks, as injuries have hit the squad, on top of players being unavailable for away trips in midweek due to work commitments.

But Vance is hopeful that his side can turn around their poor form, which also included a first qualifying round FA Trophy defeat by Northwood on penalties last week, when they host 12th-placed Herne Bay at Footes Lane.

"There should be no excuses. Home games are often better from a squad point of view," Vance said.

"There's a little bit more pressure because the crowd are expecting us to go and win, but I'd much rather be at home with a full squad than going away with part of the group."
