Teenage striker James Roberts scored on his full league debut to earn Oxford United victory at fellow League Two strugglers York City.
Roberts, who netted twice in last Saturday's FA Cup win over Grimsby, grabbed the only goal when he shot home from three yards after Danny Hylton flicked on a Brian Howard corner.
The hosts almost led when Michael Coulson's free-kick hit the bar.
Lewis Montrose also went close while Roberts hit the post for the U's.
Alfie Potter could have also added to Oxford's lead but they did not need a second goal against a York side who have now gone 12 home games without a win.
York City manager Russ Wilcox told BBC Radio York:
"Frustrated, I think that's the key word for today. It's just not dropping for us at the moment either.
"We're just looking for that little bit of luck. But saying all that I'm not going to hide away from facts. We are in trouble and we have to start performing here and winning games.
"The lads are working as hard as they possibly can but I'm just looking for a little but more now."
